This toy is a lot of fun for all ages.

The problem is that, even when really close, it often takes 3-4 shots to completely kill a fly.

I am an avid fisherman in the south Texas area. During the warm months my boat will often load up with flys. These flys are vicious. They look like ordinary house flys but they bite and the bites really hurt. Often they bite me on the ankle (even thru socks). I then grab my hat and swat them which hurts me more than them. They are very fast and usually escape. Last week I received my Bug a Salt and took it fishing. The flys invaded but wern't in the biting mood. No matter...I wanted some revenge for past asaults. So I showed them the business end of my new "Bug Gun". This thing really works and seems solid and built to last! It's like any gun...you have to be able to hit your target. But when you do, they do not escape. Sometimes it's instant death but often he's not a "fly" anymore...just a "walk" or more like a hobble with tattered wings. This is very satisfying. And almost more fun than fishing. But I do wonder what other fishermen will think when they see this mad man running around in his boat, shooting what looks like a nurf gun at unseen enemies, and hooting with pleasure at the results. Priceless!

We had a lot of spiders and flies around the house last summer. My gorgeous wife of 34+ years, did as wives all over the world do when confronted by any crawling bug larger than an ampersand in 8-point font. She screamed bloody murder for Prince Charming (well, at least to her I am, thankfully) to take the proper steps necessary to introduce the offending insect to the infernal regions. And so, with continually rolling eyes I did, whenever bidden, which last summer was rather often.

Then in November I purchased a Bug-A-Salt, and was just spoiling for the thrill of the hunt. We had a Black Widow spider, roughly the size of a half-dollar coin, and who had some time before taken up residence in the chaise longue (that's the way they spell it in France, folks) just outside our back door. Two shots dispatched her (the spider, not my wife), and my bride fawned all over me with an adoration and respect not previously experienced. I could hardly wait for the return of warmer weather for the real bug-blasting (and other activities inspired by feminine gratitude) to begin.

It seems, though, that the insect/arachnid grapevine has been buzzing (har!) with the news of my acquisition. It is now July, and have yet to find a spider anywhere near the place. Last night, however, with children and grandchildren in attendance, I masterfully 86ed a fly who was attempting to share our Pasta Jambalaya. The menfolk observed in deep envy and resentment, while the ladies cheered their (momentarily, at least) conquering Alpha Male. I love the 2nd Amendment.

Gentlemen, wrap your Manhood about you and purchase this fine product. Your social lives will dramatically improve.

I do have one problem with this product, I live in S. FL. and we have palmetto bugs, they are prehistoric creatures that are euphemistically called cockroaches but they don't resemble roaches, more like a rat crossed with a roach. I shot one with the bug-a-salt and he laughed, I shot him 10 more times before he knocked me down and stole my lunch money. I think we need a bigger gun. This one will kill flies, regular roaches and small bugs like a champ but they need to make a bigger, more powerful version.

I love this thing! It works perfectly, and it turns the annoyance of a fly in the house into an opportunity. I even leave the back door open now, just so more flies will come in.

I was one of the original owners of these guns back in December. Some here have said it doesn't have very good range. I wouldn't say that at all. I was able to kill flies at 6 feet, just not consistently. Heck, it's like a shotgun & as the cloud of grains spray out, your chances of hitting a fly with a grain drops significantly as the distance increases. You make up for that by shooting more often. The safety on this gun sucks. It auto-engages before every shot & is a royal pain. Then my safety broke & wouldn't release. Since I had nothing to lose, I unscrewed the gun & removed the safety. Fine, except the geared drive train shortly thereafter broke because, because... plastic gears operating a very strong spring just don't cut it. It's all plastic inside, folks, except for the spring & barrel. For the serious cash these go for, the guts should be metal, especially the drive train for cocking the spring. So, my vote is DO NOT BUY THIS GUN. It will not last long. If it was 4 bucks, maybe buy it, but not even for the $30.00 I paid for mine - no way.

Shoots a good pattern, before long I will be wing shooting, I changed from table salt to kosher salt because it has more punch because of the coarseness!

Kills houseflys. The big ones (not musca domestica) may take a couple shots!
Construction is very sturdy. Takes out houseflys at 3 feet. I think it would only make yellow-jackets angry, but I'm willing to take a chance this summer. (No guts, no glory.).
The scatter is about 2 inches diameter at 3 feet, so aim is not particularly critical.
Not really fly season yet, but I'm anxious to take them out on the wing. No hiding in corners where a swatter cannot reach with this device.

Does not break skin at 4 inches, didn't want to try closer because it does sting a bit.
If the next model is as effective and has a pistol like profile it would get 5 stars from me.
All I need now is a supply of 1 inch walnut plaques to mount my trophies.
