Simon Chardiet-The Master of Trashabilly!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bug Bite Daddy (Audio CD)
Simon Chardiet weighs in with a pounding, thrashing, smashing ode to classic rockabilly and blues. Chardiet, late of the seminal New York band Joey Miserable and the Worms, (Chardiet WAS Miserable), rereleases a few of the songs the Worms made famous on those hot sweaty nights at the East Village's Nightingale Bar, including Gerbil on the Wheel of Love, Broke, Bored and Lonesome and No Soul. Without the Worms powerful Horn section, these pack lots of guitar thwack! Get this and see for yourself. If the Worms could have lasted into the late 90's, they would have fit in perfectly with the current swing, rockabilly revival. Who knew? If possible, try to find the Worms two Vinyl releases on Nightcrawler Records. I have them, but I'm not giving them up for anythin'!!

Simon is amazing and true to his music. A great personality and really a gentle soul, I have seen him play since the early Worm days (daze?) I agree with the earlier reviewer that Joey Miserable and the Worms would have been big in the 90s. I was told by Spin Doctors players that in their minds Simon was the Best Guitar Player in the Tri-State area. That was when the Spin Doctors opened for Simon's performances at Nightingales. Stange how one group makes it big as opposed to another, but few in the know would disagree that Simon is the best out of that NYC genre. Beleive it or not, Simon was kind enough to truck out to eastern Long Island and play at my bloody wedding in '91!! ... and I do have the Worms early work on vinyl too and ain't giving them up either.
