Cute story,

I thought this was a cute story. However, I would have liked to see one bug with several food allergies. My son could have related a little bit better since he has multiple food allergies. I did like the activities in the back for each bug. The mantra throughout the book was ok but it would have been nice to see a mommy bug providing a safe snack.

Great Book For Explaining Allergies To Other Children,
By
This review is from: The Bugabees: Friends With Food Allergies (Hardcover)
We have a daughter with a peanut allergy and have been looking for a book that would help her explain her allergy to firends and classmates. This book is it. It has beautifully illustrated graphics to accompany well written explanations of a variety of allergies. My kids brought this to pre-school and it really resonated with the teachers and the class as it turns out their were children allergic to soy, wheat and dairy in the class. Their teachers were especially complimentary of the book because it provided an easy way for her to explain everyone's allergies to the class. We purchased an extra copy to donate to the class so she can continue to share with future students. I highly recommend this to anyone who has children who suffer from allergies!

Just Horrible,

This review is from: The Bugabees: Friends With Food Allergies (Hardcover)
I bought this book to read to my child's kindergarten class to help the other children relate to my child's food allergies. This book is a complete disappointment. There is no story or relatable characters. The author wrote one shoddy rhyming verse and repeats that same verse on every other page, only rotating out a designated insect, food, and unfortunate medical event. The children in the class were all looking for something else (actually ANYTHING else) to do rather than sit through the repetitive nonsense of this book. Unless your child finds a butterfly eating a crab and having to get a "shot or a pill" a highly relatable topic, then your child will be bored and confused by this book. Another example is a vomiting firefly...written in a rhyme of course. This is not a book that you'll read multiple times because it's so repetitive that you will feel like you've read it five times after reading it just once. If you enjoy unimaginative repetition, then this book is for you. If you are looking for a book that will educate your child and their classmates on the real-world issues related to food allergies, then look elsewhere.

I bought this book for my preschooler. He loved it. When he is done I will donate it to his preschool or kindergarden so all children will have access to it. For others to understand food allergies we need to educate them. What better way than while they are listening.

Must have,
This review is from: The Bugabees: Friends With Food Allergies (Hardcover)
My children do not have allergies, but many of their friends do. This is a wonderful story that helps children not only understand what a food allergy is but also how it affects kids that have food allergies. The story is sweet with an important message of acceptance and the illustrations keep the kids engaged. What a great title to have at home and in the classroom!

Perfect for young kids,

My two-year-old son has allergies to milk, eggs, peanuts, soy, fish, treenuts, coconut and peaches. He absolutely loves this book! There is a section in the back that goes thru each allergy and asks kids what foods that Bugabee should avoid--which is nice, because there are pictures of food he can have and can't have, and the "can have" usually outnumbers that can't. It has helped him understand why some foods are "yucky" for him, but that it is ok. He gave this book to his preschool class last year duing food allergy week, and is going to do it again this year on Monday.

Bugabees is the most amazing book for educating while proving highly entertaining to both those children who have allargies/anaphylaxis as well as their family and friends. Delightfully written and wonderfully illustrated.

Easy to follow rhyming book. My daughter loves it! Bright bold illustrations. Covers several food allergies not just one. We have several food allergy books, but this one is our favorite!

This book is a must!,
This review is from: The Bugabees: Friends With Food Allergies (Hardcover)
We've needed a book like this in my school library for some time. Finally- an informative and gentle book that appropriately handles the sensitive, yet prevalent topic of food allergies. Even children who don't have food allergies really enjoy the illustrations and learn from the text. This is a really popular book in my classroom. It's a must for any school, daycare, Dr.'s office or family with food allergies! A+++
