5.0 out of 5 stars Best Game Ever (from a non-gamer), May 18, 2006
By
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Bugdom 2 (DVD) (CD-ROM)
OK, you may be inclined to ignore my advice because of my lack of gaming experience, but that will soon change, due exclusively to my experience with Bugdom 2 (on the Mac).

The first thing that drags you in is the graphics. The characters are all creative and engaging, and the levels are unique and lush, and just invite exploring.

The 2nd most important thing for this 42yo was the skill requirements. I have tried to play so many other games, but fail so miserably at the start that there is no point in continuing. The first level here is moderately challenging for the 1st-time gamer, and the rate of acceleration of your skills as a gamer is paced EXTREMELY well, so that levels that would seem impossible before you stated playing, all seem just as challenging as the last, due to your improvement.

In terms of game analysis, here is what worked for me that seems different from other games -
1) not sci fi or fantasy - engaging characters and environments, but no blood or gore. No overly complex storyline to get in the way of game play.
2) limited repertoire of "moves" never challenges coordination of 29 buttons more than the mind,
3) linear game play allows some exploration but never lets you lose the trail or sit there bewildered like I did during my 1st (and LAST) 30 minutes of Myst.

Because of this game, I have spent hundreds of $$ trying to replicate the Bugdom 2 experience, via other Pangea games (Otto Matic, Bugdom 1) other "3D Platformer" games (that's what this genre is) for computer, and a host of used games for my new GameCube.

Bugdom 2 is in a class by itself, and the number of 1st-time gamers who have rated this game so highly should be a sign to game developers that there is a whole audience out here who would buy more games if they actually made games for us, instead of Mortal Combat IXX, Resident Evil VII and Unreal Tournament MCCXIXMCC

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! This thing is a blast!, December 10, 2004
This review is from: Bugdom 2 (DVD) (CD-ROM)
I have played the original Bugdom on my PC so much that the CD has become thin enough to read through. The only complaint i have ever had about the original game was that the controls were not as responsive as they should have been. This caused 'wandering'. Sometimes you're trying to go a certain way, and the controls made it difficult. In this game that problem was addressed. Wonderfully! The graphics are updated, the control scheme is simpler, and the controls are very reactive. You can stop on a dime and change views very easily. I have finished the game and found no game-stopping glitches. I did, however, find some 1st level head scratchers. During ONLY the 1st level, i would get booted to the windows screen often. I was about to give up., but i was enjoying the game so much i pressed on. I'm glad i did. The moment i left level 1, the problem never happenned again. This game is everything the original was, and with a lot of tweaks that would've made the first one even better! I would tell anyone i know that they would find this game enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game For gamers (and non-gamers) of all ages, May 19, 2007
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Bugdom 2 (DVD) (CD-ROM)
Great game! I love the story line, and from playing the 1st game, I became obsessed with insects and went ballistic when I found out that they were making a sequal. This one isn't as fun as the first game because it's not challenging enough, but I like it just as much.
