5.0 out of 5 stars Yet another classic Bugs film., August 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Bugs Bunny's Overtures to Disaster / Animated [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is one everybody has seen. This is the cartoon where Bugs is featured in many operas with his rivals. I can't remember the name, but Yosimite Sam is dressed up like a viking, and Bugs is dressed up like a princess. Also, the Barber of Siville with Bugs and Elmer is great. Great cartoons in sync with classical music. This is one of the best cartoons ever created. Bugs fan or not, you must have this.

5.0 out of 5 stars "What's Opera, Doc?", January 27, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Bugs Bunny's Overtures to Disaster / Animated [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I think this video contains the classic "What's Opera, Doc?" Bugs dressed in the disguise of a young maiden and Elmer Fudd with his magic helmet on to help him "kill the rabbit," sing "Return My Love." Elmer falls for the maiden until she looses her golden locks. But it doesn't end there. It stays true to Opera and sort of has a tragic ending. The animation, graphics, and humor are a true materpiece.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gems in an adequate setting, September 6, 2005
This review is from: Bugs Bunny's Overtures to Disaster / Animated [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This was a television special broadcast in 1991. It melds two of my all-time favorite cartoons, "The Rabbit of Seville" and "What's Opera, Doc?", along with "Baton Bunny" and some framing sequences including Granny, Sylvester, the three bears, and Yosemite Sam. There's also an original bit with Daffy, Porky, and the William Tell Overture.

The show tries to run the cartoons seamlessly into the action, so the original titles and credits are gone from each. I was most disappointed that "Rabbit" ended without Bugs' original punchline, "Next?" Still, it's nice to get Bugs' best orchestral works all under one roof.

Small bonus: The opera soloist heard during the closing credits comes from "Long-Haired Hare", another great musical Bugs cartoon.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of Bugs ever!, October 22, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Bugs Bunny's Overtures to Disaster / Animated [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I bought this video (well, actually, I had to order it, it was so popular at the time!) in 1993 while working at a Warner Bros. store because I loved the cartoons (especially the Wagner-piece) and said I wanted it in case I ever had kids. Well, almost ten years later, my kids (now seven and five) LOVE this video! (So do I!) For any Bugs fan and/or classical music buff, this is a MUST!

5.0 out of 5 stars Accurate description, July 2, 2010

As a teacher I am always looking for creative movies that my students can relate to, this movie is the perfect length and its description / condition was exactly what I got. My students love the movie and I love the musical experience they get from it. My one disappointment was the packaging - when the package arrived it was ripped wide open, thus causing some damage to the surface of the video sleeve.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bugs Bunny's Overtures to Disaster, January 14, 2007

Our local opera's Executive Director taught a class on "Enjoying the Opera" which I attended. He had this tape playing before the class started. I remembered the two cartoons featured--"The Rabbit of Sevile" and one based on a Wagner opera from my childhood and simply HAD to have the tape. I believe the Exeutive Director uses the tape when he teaches classes to children. An excellent cartoon for both kids and adults.
