From the Back Cover

Harvey Lauer is founder and president of American Sports Data, Inc. -- the definitive and most widely quoted source of sports and fitness participation data in the U.S. "The New Americans: Defining Ourselves Through Sports Participation" -- a seminal collection of articles, interviews and essays written by and about Mr. Lauer -- is based on primary research in the service of more than 200 corporate, governmental, media and sports organizations over the past quarter century.

The SUPERSTUDY of Sports Participation -- a nationwide tracking study of 25,000 Americans conducted every year since 1987 -- is the backdrop for a comprehensive array of sports participation topics such as the Fitness Revolution, Youth Development, Team Sports, Generation Y, Obesity, Sports Injuries, Health Club Trends, Psychological Stress, Outdoors Pursuits, and research methodology.

In a startling introduction to this Bible of sports participation research, Mr. Lauer identifies the surprising, unifying theme that links sports and social analysis. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.
