You may ask whether this is just another business leadership book.  Yes, but with three twists:

First, as a Division President for 10 years, I have spent the time leading in the trenches and can relate the experiences and suggestions that my team and I have put into practice on the ground.  I have "eaten my own dog food."

Second, I believe that stories are essential for effective leadership communication.  As such, you will see plenty of real stories and anecdotes to illustrate the ideas and concepts.

Third, leaders are not perfect and neither am I.  Throughout my career, I have both succeeded and failed.  As someone who believes fervently in the value of candor and honesty, I will be telling you about the times and ways that I have succeeded and the occasions where I have failed

In the end, the goal of the book is to give aspiring and current business leaders simple, concrete and doable ideas on how to focus on the fundamentals and build a better business.

Further, David has advised more than 25 small to middle-market clients (both domestically and internationally) in delivering growth, improving operations, and developing people.  David has an MBA with Distinction from the Wharton School and a BA from Williams College.

I've been through this book twice now and I'm realizing I need to go through it again. This book is a real gem and one that will stay on my desk at work for a handy reference. The chapters are not long to read and although they hang together with the rest of the book they could easily be read on their own with much benefit. I love the real life stories he weaves into the content which adds tremendous power to what he says and separates this book from others written by consultants with no real P&L experience. The quotations used throughout the book were carefully selected and fit the theme extremely well. David continually drives home personal and business ethics and transparent integrity. If you want to be the best leader possible and set yourself apart from all the rest get this book. In addition, check out his blog which is located at [...].

Though I'm not a fan of business books, I made an exception for this one. Packed with pertinent info on how to successfully lead in selling to other businesses, the personal anecdotes give clear examples of the points Shedd is making. Also liked the relevant quotes from successful business leaders which drive home the validity and effectiveness of the methods outlined here. A quick read that will give you a blueprint to creating a successful team with stellar customer service values.

I'm really excited about this book! It is easy and enjoyable to read and a great reference book on how to successfully build and run a business, lead and inspire people and serve your customers. As a practical and comprehensive tome, anyone, whether they be an experienced business person, or a young person who is trying to make their way in the business world, will glean insight and inspiration.

I have also had the pleasure of hearing the author, David Shedd, speak. His book is a reflection of his communication style: easy to listen to, humorous, engaging and credible. I recommend this book and David Shedd as an exceptional business resource and leader to my valued business network and clients.

Over this past holiday weekend, I had an opportunity to read David's book Build a Better B2B Business. I was impressed for what David had accomplished during his 16 years at Oldcastle and appalled on how he was rewarded for his stellar performance and loyalty. However, it appears that David has a knack of turning a bad situation into a positive one (and writing a book about it.) In David's easy to read and understand book, he preaches 3 basic business fundamentals to drive business success. A must have book for every business manager.
