An historic coming together,
By
This review is from: Build a Bridge (DVD)
Build a Bridge is a coming together of diverse cultural gospel music and the old and new. Uniting us, rather than dividing. Inspired by Gaither and Bishop T.D. Jakes this two night rousing gospel performance took place in Texas (2004) and features black gospel legends, Hispanic and Samoan groups and the traditional Gaither gospel Homecoming friends.
You will see some rousing performances and frequent Homecoming Friend, Alicia Williams starts out with "I Thank You Lord"; The Martins "Great is the Lord"; Gaither chats with the Barrett Sisters, who at this time were in their 70s and they perform "New Home". Jessy Dixon, leads with "Get Away Jordan/Yes Lord" and Jake Hess joins in on the fun. "We Need a Word from the Lord", by Shirley Murdock. The Crabb Family sings "Greater is He In Me"; Jeff & Sheri Easter, "Walkin' On". I especially liked Beverly Crawford, singing "Can't Nobody Do Me Like Jesus". Two gospel legends, Albertina Walker, (died Oct, 2010) and Dottie Rambo, (died 2008) team up for Rambo's "I Go To The Rock". Two other memorable performances - the Hispanic Christian rock group, El Trio de Hoy, "Momentos" and a soulful Smokie Norful sings "I Need You Now". The more mellow performances include: The all male Samoan brothers gospel group, The Katinas, "Thank You"; Avin Slaughter sings "Build a Bridge". You will hear the beautiful voice of Cynthia Clawson, "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus"; Shirley Murkock "We Need a Word from the Lord", Dorinda Clark Cole "Tis So Sweet". Legendary gospel women, Vestal Goodman sings "O How I Love Jesus" and Cissy Houston sings "Faith". The Gaither Vocal Band closes with "Let Freedom Ring". One important thing about this coming together is to listen to Bishop as he chats with Gaither. You can't help but listen to his messages. This is one classic concert performance teaming legendary performers, cultural performers, the young, the old, all for gospel music. There may have been another volume of this two-night concert, because at the end of the DVD, there are pictures of performers who were not on this DVD. Great concert!.....Rizzo

I own almost every Gaither Homecoming dvd and I must admit this is not one of my favorites. Their is too much talking and not enough singing.

Too much screaming for my taste!,

This one didn't do it for me. While I thoroughly enjoyed the interviews with T.D. Jakes, I didn't enjoy the black gospel singers' efforts to out-scream each other on their various collaborations. Not my cup o' tea.
