Highly Recommend,

This book is excellent because it shows a simple home building method that breaks down the many steps of home building into small, manageable pieces. The monthly and weekly schedule forms were easy to use and to fill out; all you had to do was follow the examples in the book. This book has given me the confidence to go forward and start building my home, and I know I can save about $90,000 by doing it myself. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is thinking about building their own home.

If you're interested in being the contractor to build your own home using subs, this book is for you. The book has great examples, tips and tricks, pitfalls, and even templates are included. It's a quick read yet it's very comprehensive.

My husband and I are building a house and have taken a semester-long course to prepare for it. I just received this book today and have read half of it already. It's very easy to understand with great pictures and examples (just as informative as the course we took). There's a very good section on "selecting and working with contractors". This is my second "how to build a house" book. I should have purchased this one first. Check it out... it's worth the purchase.

I bought this book several years ago before building our home. The instructions and schedules were easy to reproduce and follow. I re-typed some of the documents for use with the subs rather than usings the fill-in-the-blank versions provided, but left the wording the same. I also purchased some additional contracts through another site for an addition of less than $10 and began. We didn't complete the work per the original schedule, but came in within budget and were able to afford many extras by doing some work ourselves and savings from also serving as the general contractor for the remaining work.
I later loaned the book to a friend who was building and spent an evening gong over the do's and don't as well as lessions learned. They are now in their new home and I have yet to see the old book. Since we plan to build a retirement home in the next 5 to 10 years, I bought another copy for use at that time. The friendship was more valuable than any book and the other couple has adult children who will surely benefit from the book as well.

I haven't read the entire book yet. it's not as long as i had anticipated but a lot of building a house is territorial and would have to be written by a local author. i've liked it so far.
