What do we expect of a musician? We expect him to be able to write original songs that sustain one's interest both musically and lyrically. We expect the music to be unique and flawlessly executed. We expect him, if he sings, to have an intrigueing voice, to sing from his heart, and to move us to the place where he found the song. We don't expect the music to be 'nice' and appealing in the short term - it must have depth, profundity, and it may be sad, but still it should be beautiful. The music should grow on you, and become part of you, and become more beautiful the more you listen to it. Now, I am 55 years old, and I have at last found a young artist, Joshua James, who is able to do everything that I have listed. And a tall order it is indeed - but still he has it all! He stands out like a beacon of light in a morass of boring, unoriginal, feeble wannabees for whom it seems imperative to sing out of tune. Thank God that there are still some artists around. I was beginning to think that they had all gone away. To 'Build me this' all I can say is 'Bravo, Joshua!'. I have the first album too, and love it as much... I cannot wait for more.

Joshua James is quite simply one of the best of the emerging singer-songwriters on the scene today. For such a young man, he brings a maturity and depth to his compositions. Having the good fortune to have seen him in live performance recently in Vienna, Virginia, I can also complement him on the ability to give a dynamic stage presentation. This should be a must buy for any real music lover!!!

I saw Joshua James when he opened for Eric Hutchinson...had no idea who he was...but after his first song- I WAS HOOKED! Bought this CD at the show and can't stop listening to it. Highly recommend this album. Have since purchased all of his CDs and waiting for him to tour back to Tucson.

I heard a song off of the album on Philly's XPN, which we get in Maryland, I and I had to know who it was so I bought the album even though it is 2 years old. I really liked it, I wonder how I missed it when it first came out. It is a little Coner Orbust like and a little James Taylor (without the sleepy sounds).

Words can't really explain how much I would recommend his music to others. His voice is beautiful, his lyrics meaningful and the tunes are both haunting and catchy at the same time, a rare feat for someone to achieve.

I happened across Joshua James when cruising for new music on YouTube. Loved the first song I heard and every song since! What an amazing talent! What soulful lyrics and presentation! He is definitety a voice for our times.

FYI, I'm a folk music fan who mostly listens to artists like Richard Shindell, John Gorka, Brandon Heath, Peter Bradley Adams, Joshua Radin, Griffin House, John Mayer, Whiskeytown and my timeless favorite, James Taylor.

Joshua songs that I enjoy most? Crash this Train... In the Middle... Wilted Daisies... Coal War... Lawn of Marigolds...

He's one of those artists you just want the whole world to be listening to. I have no doubt that one day will be the case.

This album is simply incredible. Every song is raw and emotional. Joshua James shares every possible part of his voice with his listeners. He hits these gravelly, coarse notes that are so genuine, you fall in love with his music. The guitar instrumentals are powerful.
His music inspires me to write. By listening to this CD over and over, I finally managed to finish a screenplay I've been plugging away at for almost a year. That's a personal story that you might not see as relevant to your interests, but the point is:
this album is inspirational!!! Buy it!!!

I can't play this out and, believe me, I'm trying. Amazing artist on so many levels (musically, lyrically, commentary on the world we live in today). Equally as powerful and impressive as his first album - I can't say it's better, but I can't say it's the worst either. Wilted Daisies is my favorite song on this album.

Don't have time to write a big review, just wanted to drop in to say how much I liked this album: Beautifully composed, well-written music that will appeal to all sorts of music listeners from alternative rock fans to folk music buffs.

This was the third copy of this album I bought. I listened to the disc twenty or thirty times in my car and just HAD to share it with friends! Everyone I sent it to has loved it, too. Joshua James is an incredibly talented and sincere musician. It's one of the most soulful and empathetic albums I've ever owned. I'll probably be buying a bunch more of these as Christmas presents for my other music-loving buddies. If I had to rate it on a scale of 1-10, this disc is definitely a 10!
