"BUILD ME UP, BUTTERCUP" is a classic, Motown-type tune that Baby Boomers will remember fondly and that even younger dancers will adapt to amiably. A great party song (think: wedding reception) BUTTERCUP charms with its intrinsic lyricism ("Why do you build me up, Buttercup, just to break me down . . . But I love you still"); also, its moderate, pre-disco go-go beat and call-and-response style make it easy to learn and fun to sing along with. Regular moviegoers may recall that this finger-snapping delight was used in the 1999 film THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY with Cameron Diaz and Matt Dillon (BUTTERCUP also shows up in a Deleted scene).

This particular version is an original, made back in the Sixties by the Foundations. (I suspect it has been digitally remastered since.) Buying it may be the best buck you ever spent on a party tune. Highest recommendation. BTW there is another verion, using different singers, available for download and a dime cheaper. It's fine, but I prefer the original.
