5.0 out of 5 stars A must for any Os Mutantes fan!
So I didn't even know this album (let alone other Rita Lee albums) existed until a few weeks ago when I saw it at a very fine record store in Austin called End of An Ear. Apparently, she recorded this album in the U.K. somewhat concurrently to her time in Os Mutantes (don't quote me for 100% accuracy with this one). This album features arrangements bearing more...

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Post-Tropicália gem
'Build Up' is an interesting chapter in Rita's solo career, mostly due to the fact that similar to it's follow up, it is essentially a Mutantes album with Rita's name plastered on it. While there are a lot of similarities between the songs featured on this album and A Divina Comedia Ou Ando Meio Desligado, having Rita in the forefront of it all adds a very flamboyant...

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for any Os Mutantes fan!, June 15, 2006
This review is from: Build Up (Audio CD)
So I didn't even know this album (let alone other Rita Lee albums) existed until a few weeks ago when I saw it at a very fine record store in Austin called End of An Ear. Apparently, she recorded this album in the U.K. somewhat concurrently to her time in Os Mutantes (don't quote me for 100% accuracy with this one). This album features arrangements bearing more resemblance to what European singers such as Sandie Shaw, Francoise Hardy were doing more than to the early Os Mutantes stuff, but it's still has the surreal, odd touches intact. Imagine if you took "Le Premier Bonheur Du Jour" to the next logical step. I guess this album "flopped", but, man...I wish more people made flops like this!

Since this album is still working it's effects on me, I'll give it a "5" instead of a judicious "4", since it's not her fault that I rushed to be the first reviewer! ;)

Just as "Lust For Life" is an album that any Stooges fan should own, this album will be a treat for the Os Mutantes fan.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Post-Tropicália gem, December 25, 2011
This review is from: Build Up (Audio CD)
'Build Up' is an interesting chapter in Rita's solo career, mostly due to the fact that similar to it's follow up, it is essentially a Mutantes album with Rita's name plastered on it. While there are a lot of similarities between the songs featured on this album and A Divina Comedia Ou Ando Meio Desligado, having Rita in the forefront of it all adds a very flamboyant pizazz not present on the latter. All in all, it's a campy pop album with very light psychedelic undertones. Essential for fans of the Tropicália movement, though Rita Lee fans may find themselves surprisingly underwhelmed. Funny how that works, isn't it?

Listen to: "Sucesso, Aqui Vou Eu (Build Up)", "Viagem Ao Fundo de Mim", "José".
