Book Description

August 18, 2009
Have you ever watched the Autobots battle the evil Decepticons in Transformers and wished you could be in on the action? Now you can create a world of fantastic paper robots that you can color, print, and build yourself with this amazing book and CD combo. It has everything you need to complete the fantasy--thorough step-by-step assembly instructions and illustrations are in the book, while the CD has 14 ready-to-print, customizable robot templates.
Colors, designs, and size can be manipulated using any standard editing package so you can create over 250 variants for a full robot army. The models print out on letter-sized paper and are assembled using rubber bands or fishing line, it's that easy! There are even templates for a cityscape suitable for crushing or a Super Dimension- type fortress for a robot takeover.
From shape-changing Transformer-types to chunky Gundam-esque mobile suits, there's mecha for makers of all skill levels. So if you're a first-time model maker or just a fan of robots, anime, and manga, there's bound to be the perfect project waiting for you in Build Your Own Paper Robot.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice book, only 12 robots, August 29, 2009
This review is from: Build Your Own Paper Robots: 100s of Mecha Model Designs on CD to Print Out and Assemble (Hardcover)
Pros: Nice robot designs, well detailed directions, and some flavor text description that older children would probably enjoy.

Cons: Only 12 robot designs, not "hundreds".

I'm guessing that the publisher put "hundreds of mecha model designs" in the title because the templates for each of the 12 robots are provided in 2 formats: both a colored pdf file, and an uncolored psd file. While some people will appreciate the opportunity to use Photoshop or Gimp to custom-color their mechas, I hardly think that is sufficient to call 12 mecha designs "hundreds".

Decent book, dishonest title.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, September 28, 2009
This review is from: Build Your Own Paper Robots: 100s of Mecha Model Designs on CD to Print Out and Assemble (Hardcover)
My son also expected "hundreds" of robots on the CD, but there are only 12. Bear in mind that you have to purchase card stock to print the designs, use your own color ink (ours ran low on the first one) and then cut out each design. A lot of work for one model.

1.0 out of 5 stars way way too hard, January 10, 2011
This review is from: Build Your Own Paper Robots: 100s of Mecha Model Designs on CD to Print Out and Assemble (Hardcover)
received this as a gift for 6 year old son. I basically had to do it all, and it was abominably difficult. Find the right paper, get the print colours right, cut it out (yikes!), and glue/tape/pin together. It took me weeks of working late at night to finish one project. Finished projects only sort-of work. Not robotic. Fiddly. I'm 45 years old and good at this kind of stuff, but never again.
