5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely helpful book, March 31, 2003
By
Andria Strickley (San Francisco, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Build Your Own Web Site (Paperback)
I spent hours scouring the shelves for a book like
this, but could never find one-- until now. Build Your Own Web Site offers exactly the kind of step-by-step instruction non-techies need to put together a successful site, start to finish. Most web design books assume too much knowledge on the part of their readers. This one offers practical, easy-to-understand advice on issues such as how to obtain a domain name-- and other topics that can strike fear into the hearts of computer phobes. Wondering whether you need to learn HTML? Or what the heck a web-safe color is, anyway? It's all here in David Karlins' wonderfully straightforward book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very well organized book, March 29, 2003
By
"shelwyn@shelwyn.com" (San Francisco, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Build Your Own Web Site (Paperback)
Build Your Own Web Site has something for everyone. This is an impressive book in that it completely demystifies the process of building a web site from A to Z. There are few books that truly begin at the beginning and discuss a wide variety of web tools; this makes web design accessible to everyone. It also simplifies the process for those who want to spend most of their time focusing on core competencies, rather that fighting through the labyrinth of developing and maintaining a web site. With a minimum of confusion, a novice can navigate the necessary steps required to build and maintain a presence on the web. In addition, independent web contractors will find this a useful guide since different companies often use the various web tools presented in this book and require their contractors to do the same. I was very impressed with the amount of knowledge packed into one volume. It is well written, well organized and very approachable. I will keep this book on the shelf as a personal reference, and I will recommend it to my students.

5.0 out of 5 stars The "Swiss Army Knife" of books, April 6, 2003
By
Rodney Fite (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Build Your Own Web Site (Paperback)
This is the first book I've seen that recognizes that there is more to creating a web site than knowing a specific web development program.

It explains in easy to understand terms, all of the steps necessary to do your web site...from start to finish.

This is the perfect book for an individual or a small business that wants to create their own web site.
