Book Description

Somehow Lacy Steele has bought a building. And not just any building, but the historic Stakely Building, the pinnacle of her small downtown. In an effort to save the behemoth, she must now confront not only the displeasure of the mayor and the developers who wanted to tear it down, but her own uncertainty over how to deal with such a vast project.

To add to her confusion, Tosh's brother shows up with secrets of his own, causing Tosh to act standoffish and sullen. And now Jason is angry because Lacy throws herself into a murder that took place in her new bulding over twenty years ago. He's sure her meddling will lead to no good, and he just might be right because somewhere a killer has been hiding for twenty years, just waiting to strike again.

4.0 out of 5 stars In the right direction... April 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've read the Lacy Steele books in the order they were published. first, third, and now the second. After the first book, i was pretty excited to read the next one. I found it odd that the 3rd came out next but picked it up given how much I enjoyed the first book. I was extremely disappointed as it was more of a pre-teen romance than a mystery series. True to the author's words, it didn't give anything away to book 2 both from a character development perspective as much as the story itself. So you must wonder why I picked up this book given my dissatisfaction with the 3rd book...Well, I was just curious to know what happened in the middle.

I must say that the author did redeem herself a bit. Although still not as good as the first, it did have a mystery aspect to it. And, I have to say I was stumped for quite a while. The character development helped to explain a bit to book 3 and some things made better sense. I liked how the author built up the story line but was dissatisfied with how it all came together and was solved, a bit too abrupt and with it a let down with all the suspense building she had done up to Lacy 'solving' it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Abrupt ending February 21, 2012

I really like the series. The only problem is that the books end leaving me wondering "is that all"? Especially Building Blocks. I am hoping that there will be another so I can find out what the ending is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! write faster!!! February 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really loved this book in the series! Lacy opened up about her past to certain people! Don't want to spoil it but wow! Tosh, his brother and Jason! All hotties! The mystery was well written and the ending got me! I was sure I knew whodunit but I was wrong! Full of twists, laughs and suspense and even a little romance! Highly recommend this book! Can't wait for the next!

3.0 out of 5 stars I want to like this series.... December 9, 2012
By CaroleS
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I want to like the Lacy Steele series, really I do. This is my type of cheeky girl-detective formula book. Sadly the formula is too obvious to be enjoyable.

I read Book 1 and now Book 2. The characters did not develop; the back story really didn't give any deeper information. There was no building on the last book. These series books seem to start out slowly and very shallow. But they grow and develop. This one did not develop at all.

The ending of the book was telegraphed so obviously through the entire book that it was a huge disappointment that it actually happened.

I might check out 3 -- *might* -- and if it's not deeper, I'll probably not get another.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book after having read the first one in the series. I am now reading Book #3 and, so far, am enjoying it just as much as the first two.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Read April 30, 2012
By Jeannie
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Lacy Steele series probably won't go down in the annuls as classic literature but the books are enoyable. The plots tend to be a bit cliche' and the characters somewhat predicatble. However, the reading is light and entertaining. If you're looking for a way to just pass some down-time from stress this book may be for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars it's ok
I don't like books with a leave you dangling ending. The plot was pretty simple also. I think series books should be more stand alone

4.0 out of 5 stars I love Lacy!
I had never suspected the murderer would turn out to be who it was. Bartal does a great job of weaving the mystery and surprising you totally at the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lacey Steele is a good story.
I like Lacey Steele and her adventures. She is a funny and interesting character--not perfect. Jason Cantor however, is a little too perfect!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun clean read
Have been looking for mysteries that have no bad language and aren't extremely violent. Also this series has a platonic romance.

Another winner for Bartal. Just as enjoyable as her first one. I am a "hooked fan of hers now. Try one yourself.
