Book Description

March 1, 2006 10 and up5 and upBuilding Cards
How to Build Pirate Ships comes with a deck of 64 beautifully illustrated laminated leaves that break into 226 separate cards, cleverly shaped and notched to fit securely with every other card. Follow the book's guidelines to assemble them into a sturdy ship in full sail. Innovative design makes it easy to construct hulls, railings and sails that curve and billow in convincingly nautical fashion — all from completely flat pieces. Since pirates are known non-conformists, the possible ship variations are limitless. There are literally billions of different combinations in every pack of building cards, so you can make anything from a dinky dinghy to a super sailing vessel.

Comes With: 64 perforated leaves that break into 226 building cards, a custom-molded pirate figurine

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Project, November 30, 2007

My 8yo son really likes this. He got it as a gift last Christmas and has rebuilt it a few times. He also uses it for imaginary play. It is just the right level of difficulty. He builds it by himself. The cards are sturdy and it makes a great project.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pros and Cons are...., December 10, 2011

This review is from: Building Cards: How to Build Pirate Ships (Paperback)
I bought this boat to make it into a birthday party decoration. Its going to be part of a pirate birthday party and I needed a easy to make boat.

The Pros
The instructions are super easy and fun.
Its super fun to build ( might buy other kinds of building cards because it was so fun and easy)
The cards are pretty thick. I feared that they would be easy to brake.
All you really have to do is grab the right size card and slide them together to connect (cutting or glue needed)

The Cons
I was not impressed with the graphic, its tells you not to pay attencion to the picture on the cards but if you do that then it looks werid at the end. I thought they could have had better pictures to make the ship look nicer and real.

My 12 yr old son has several sets of these cards and he just loves them. He will spend hours building entire towns or fleets of ships - space and sailing. The cards take up very little room. They are great to take on trips.
