Fun Building,
By NYC Mom "NYC Mom" (NY, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Building Cards: Hogwarts: School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (Spiral-bound)
I purchased this item for my 11 year old daughter, who is a big Harry Potter fan and she is really enjoying it. She loves building the castle (although we are not yet finished) Things to note about the toy, there are a LOT of really tiny pieces so you need a good size space to work on, the instructions require you to flip back and forth between pages which is cumbersome and sometimes they are not easy for an 11 year old to follow without help. Younger kids may need help building it depending on how good they are with instructions, but it will defintely keep an 11-13 yr old busy for a while, the castles can take hours to build depending on how fast you work and how complicated you want it. It also makes a great family time activity as everybody can build parts of it at the same time. Kids who love building will like this toy, even if they aren't Harry Potter fans. Overall, I recommend the toy as a good value and lots of fun.

Pieces missing,
This review is from: Building Cards: Hogwarts: School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (Spiral-bound)
The building cards are nice and strong. However, when my daughter tried to build the simplest castle (from the direction book), we realized that she was missing pieces. We called the manufacturer and they were very helpful and sent us a replacement set. Other than that, we've been very happy with the set.

My children loved building this set and they used it to visualize their reading experience. It was worth the money spent on it. The only thing that didn't go over too well is that not all pieces are easy to put together; little adjustments must be made to accommodate the whole structure.

Good but a little fragile,
This review is from: Building Cards: Hogwarts: School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (Spiral-bound)
I purchased these as a present for my 10 year old daughter. She was a little frustrated at the beginning and was not pushing the cards in toghether all the way, and when she did she was using too much force and bending them. She did get the hang of it after a while. Also, the kit does not provide a full set of instructions to create the Hogwarts Castle (a la Lego), it shows how to build basic units and lets the builder design their own interpretation of the building. This has worked OK for my daughter, surprisingly. I don't expect they will last very long.

i was so pleased because it arrived very early , when i start to build the hogwarts' castle i notice that the castle is not the same as the real replica of the hogwarts' castle , i try to imitate the real castle but some pieces are not suitable , but in over all the item is great for a huge harry potter fan

Not for anyone of single-digit age,

The jury is still out on this product. First, the pros:* Interchangeable parts, to create your own design; * The price, that is good for a gift to a Harry Potter Fan; * Maybe there are more pros, but I can't think of them; And now, the cons: * Instruction book is lacking. It does not tell you how to completely assemble an entire castle; * Cardboard sheets. You have to break them away from perforated sheets, where it is easy to rip a picture on a piece that may be poorly perforated. The pieces are relatively flimsy. * Locking mechanisms. The pieces can be compared to the kind of material that traditional puzzles are made of -- thin cardboard. That said, the locks are difficult to put together and can be easily and unintentionally bent. * Difficult. This is not for anyone who is less than 10. I had bought this for my 6-year-old. It sits in a container, to wait until he ages about 4-5 years. At that time, we may have forgotten that we had bought this.

The building cards set was fine, but on the last page of the instruction book was a large sewing needle poked into the page. Transaction was fine.

I was surprise and delighted to see my package arrive 2 weeks before the estimate.I was really looking forward to building this item with my brother and boyfriend, however when we opened the instruction we were dissappointed, rather than direct instructions on how to build the different castles it gives instructions on how to build individual parts (e.g. towers, ramparts and spires) and then tells you how many of each you'll need but not how to put them all together. After an hour of struggle we gave up and now my cat keeps climbing up on my desk to knock the pieces on the floor. atleast he seems to be having fun with it.

Hogwarts construction is fun,

The Hogwarts construction kit is a lot of fun for my 10 year old daughter who is crazy about everything Harry Potter. It is one of the few items that is Harry Potter themed that is not excessively priced. My daughter and her daddy started on this project together and were having fun but did need to take a break half way through and my daughter is intimidated to try it on her own. Apparently, the pointed roof portions are a little difficult to assemble. The rest of it seemed like an acceptable challenge for her age. She did seem to think that certain types of cards were not sufficient in the supply even though there are 275 pieces. Over all, she is thrilled with it.

I bought this for my son (10) and daughter (12). They already had one set that we bought from Borders, and they wanted to expand. Amazon's price was about 1/2 of Borders. Thanks Amazon!
