5.0 out of 5 stars 10 star little gem of a booklet
Being a chicken owner for decades and owning a number of books on chickens I think this book has everything you need to know. From the 12 tips for a successful coop design, space requirements, temperature control, which on hot summer days or freezing winter nights is a must know. Choosing the right flooring for both cleaning and rodent proofing, types of bedding, nests...

1.0 out of 5 stars country wisdom? look elsewhere ...
So why, do you ask, did I give it one star? This guide is actually just a chapter from another of the author's books: "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens : Care / Feeding / Facilities". [Notice this is not mentioned in the publisher's passage above.] If you've purchased that particular guide book - and I assume you have been surfing the chickie books if you're thinking...

So why, do you ask, did I give it one star? This guide is actually just a chapter from another of the author's books: "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens : Care / Feeding / Facilities". [Notice this is not mentioned in the publisher's passage above.] If you've purchased that particular guide book - and I assume you have been surfing the chickie books if you're thinking about raising chickens - then why would you spend another four bucks for this volume of repeated information? And for that matter, why specifically buy a coop book without knowing the rest of what you need to know about raising poultry, right? No clucks here - this here in-fo-ma-shun book-e-lette is going to be sent back to them there amazon pee-pul under the return reason: "flocking cheep trick, there, pard-ner".

1.0 out of 5 stars Little booklet with simplistic information, November 6, 2006
This review is from: Building Chicken Coops: Storey Country Wisdom Bulletin A-224 (Paperback)
I bought this book in combination with Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens and found the same information in both. The booklet was apparently excerpted from the book.

I wouldn't bother investing money in this booklet, put the cash instead towards the full Storey's Guide where you will get the same information and more!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Trust Amazon Reccomendation!!, August 1, 2006
This review is from: Building Chicken Coops: Storey Country Wisdom Bulletin A-224 (Paperback)
I grabbed this after getting the Raising Chickens book by the same author. Amazon reccomended this book after I purchased the raising chickens bookm and since I planned on building a coop, I figured this information, along with the raising chickens book would be enough. But, much to my dismay, this Bulletin is more of an exerpt of the book. All the same information is covered in a chapter of the book. Don't waste your money on this at all if you get the other book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Buy the book not this word for word exerpt, July 26, 2007

First I would like to say that the information in this pamphlet is useful, and in and of it self is worth the price if you know WHAT YOUR GETTING... This is a word for word copy (and I do mean word for word) of the "Housing" section in "Storey's Guide To Raising Chickens" By Gail Damerow. The book is well worth the money for all the information (outside of this chicken coop section) in it. You can pick up the book between 10 and 15 dollars (and it's worth every penny). Most people I have talked with (and some of the reviews below) stated they just ended up buying the book.

Next thing to consider is that this is not a chicken coop construction manual. There are really no plans in it (just ideas). If your looking for chicken coop designs with plans I would suggest "Poultry House Construction" By Michael Roberts. It has 8 or 9 coop PLANS with black and white photos to show you what it will look like. Mr. Roberts book also gives you nesting box plans, broody coops, and much more in under a hundred pages. I think the book was only $11.00 american dollars.

In closing do buy "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens" By Gail Damerow, and do buy "Poultry House Construction" By Micheal Roberts. I just can't in good faith tell you to buy this pamphlet given you will probably end up buying another book because the pamphlet really needs the rest of the book to be useful.

Choosing the right flooring for both cleaning and rodent proofing, types of bedding, nests and nest boxes, feeders and watering set ups, fencing and other helpful information. Makes me wonder if the others who gave such negative reviews even read this small booklet.

This is a cheap book but isn't worth the money. The Storey book on chickens is much more useful.

If you buy Storeys Guide to Raising Chickens then do not bother with this book it is just an excerpt from his other book word for word.

This review is from: Building Chicken Coops: Storey Country Wisdom Bulletin A-224 (Paperback)
This book is informative and great if you are only wanting a little info. The Storley's guide to raising chickens is the more complete manual this is the cliff notes version of that book.

All of this information in this handout is already contained within the book, "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens." It is simply a few chapters of the book printed seperately.
