Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

This text is not a "how to do it" book, rather it is a book on how things are (or should be) done. The intention is not to develop any specific construction skill in the reader. The aim is to improve knowledge of practical methodology, so that middle management can convey the proper information to the artisans who actually build the building.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too expensive for the generalized information, August 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Building Construction Principles, Practices and Materials (Paperback)
Author uses terms that are not always defined. Author addresses labor productivity sporadically. Author does not use case study information for current construction methodologies. Information for basic materials is fine. Author does not address more recent materials such as fiber mesh, dryvit, etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars good practical book, April 22, 2009
This review is from: Building Construction Principles, Practices and Materials (Paperback)
This book is not for novice student it is not introductory to building technology it is for intermediate student and those familiar to building which try to get better knowledge of practical methodology. For every subject (like placing slab, metal work, dry wall and so on) it gives following information

1- introduction 2-product- material range 3- construction equipment used for the job 4- production including crew configuration and productivity

5- procedures including preparation , method and precaution.

Also it illustrated with lot of pictures which is very good

As you can see this is not introductory book on building technology rather more procedurals.

I like this book especially for practice and it useful in real work. There are rare book like this.

The downside is it is 1995 and it did not get updated. Some definition is not defined as it is supposed the reader has some base knowledge about it.
