Good Introductory Book, September 8, 2011
This review is from: Building Dashboards for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 using SharePoint Designer 2007 (Wrox Briefs) (Digital)
I disagree with the previous reviews . . . although this book doesn't contain heavy technical concepts or elements, it is a good beginning guide for people who are just starting out in building dashboards and connecting Web Parts for SharePoint (this book is specifically written for WSS 3.0 although elements can also be applied to MOSS 2007).
If you are a more experienced SharePoint Developer/Administrator or have more experience than the common end user in SharePoint this book probably isn't for you. I would recommend this book to business users or end user looking to add more functionality to their departmental or team sites without having to read a lengthy technical book. I've rated the book with that mindset.

I couldn't agree more with the previous review of this document. Although there are one or two useful tidbits regarding data views, there is absolutely no content relative to dashboard development. Don't waste your time or money.

Avoid if you know anything about sharepoint, May 30, 2010
This review is from: Building Dashboards for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 using SharePoint Designer 2007 (Wrox Briefs) (Digital)
This PDF may be something usable by someone who has been thrown into Sharepoint without any real IT or programming background, but if you have some experience, this is not for you. Even at the price I feel I have been had. Not only does this document fail to cover building a sharepoint dashboard in any depth, it fails to explain what a dashboard is, the theories behind them, or any other key concepts and relate those to the why and how of the example dashboard in this document.
Also, don't expect to see a working example of a single dashboard in this document, there is none. This document goes through some steps on creating web part pages using web parts and then makes the leap to a dashboard.
If you are looking for a serious book about building dashboards in Sharepoint, do not look here. If you have no clue about sharepoint or what is possible, then maybe this document could give you some ideas to explore, but any actual learning is outside the scope of this document.
