3.0 out of 5 stars Basic discussion November 8, 2011
By Robbie
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book appears to be a basic discussion on the topic and not a detailed look into modern processes and techniques of setting up systems that allow an organization to be data driven. Maybe this is what the author intended ("basic discussion") but I expected more.

I cant say that I was impressed so I can only give a rating of 3.

4.0 out of 5 stars if you are in data science, you need to read this May 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
In this relatively new field of data science it's difficult to even define what is included let alone define the teams that create the results. This is a great book that clarifies both the definition of data science and the kind of teams do the work. This is a must read for people seriously in this field.

Good read. Author speaking a lot from experience. Would love to see more about the practical 'how'. Whilst there are lots of references to this, I was hoping for more day-to-day how.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for data science professionals December 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Especially for people involved in hiring analytic professionals. If you are interested in learning about data science and want to understand modern, innovative, state-of-the-art techniques and apply these techniques, I recommend that you download the "Data Science ebook by Analyticbridge". It's also a free book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read July 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Really great resource for building teams/hiring. Given that the title "data scientist" is so new, hiring for the position generally has a lot of unknowns, but DJ Patil is definitely one of the few authority figures in the field with a lot of great first-hand experience to share. That, together with the fact that the book is such a quick read, makes it essential for anyone building, or thinking about building, a data driven company.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing here
There is no useful information here, just hype. Big data is now a popular term and companies want to recruit data scientists even though they are around all this time. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent summary of the requirements for effective data science team...
A wealth of relevant and critical information in a concise, superbly written document. A must-read for any leader considering building internal data science capabilities.

1.0 out of 5 stars Even free books are to be avoided
Very superficial, no guidelines that can be used in practice. Data Science is a hot topic so setting up a team for doing just that can be a challence-this book will not help.

I found this to be a good overview of data science teams and found the sections on what to look for in team members very helpful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good content, but short
I thought I was getting a free book, but it is really just a white-paper put into the e-book format. Good content, but too short.
