Book Description

For Pros By Pros April 4, 2006
Framing is bread-and-butter work for builders. Builders who want to stay on top of their business and meet customer demands for quality materials and excellent workmanship need to know about engineered lumber-how it affects home design, and how different types of engineered lumber are ordered, stored, handled, cut and installed. "Building with Engineered Lumber" delivers this information clearly, comprehensively, and in well-organized chapters that builders can put to work right away.

5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely packed with tips, October 25, 2008

This review is from: Building with Engineered Lumber (For Pros By Pros) (Paperback)
This book is only 128 pages, but I would have gotten my money's worth
from 10 pages. Absolutely packed with information, amply illustrated,
and even includes lots of information on metal framing connectors.

The book addresses it all, from floors to walls and roofs, beams and
posts, LVL, LSL, PSL, Glulams, I-joists (and I've got all of them except
glulams in my new addition)

My main wish is that he would expand the scope of the book to include
those framing connectors. He mainly addresses the use of them with
engineered lumber, but there isn't a good pro-sumer guide to these
outside the manufacturer's datasheets.

Another item that I would love to see covered is hybrid steel/lumber
construction. Filch beams, steel ibeams with wood plates, etc.
