4.0 out of 5 stars Another home run!
An excellent case for making children a priority in church rather than relegating them to a back Sunday school room somewhere. Very readable - something you could get through in an evening or two. Provides a solid research base without boring you with statistics. Then shows you where to go in a clear, understandable manner without the dryness of a textbook. A bit more...

Building Faith at Home: Why Faith at Home Must Be Your Church's #1 Priority

Great book! Concept so simple I didn't understand why I hadn't thought of it. I have ordered additional copies and distributed them to key members of both my church and others. I love the fact that we don't have to change existing programs, we just have to look at them in a different...

An excellent case for making children a priority in church rather than relegating them to a back Sunday school room somewhere. Very readable - something you could get through in an evening or two. Provides a solid research base without boring you with statistics. Then shows you where to go in a clear, understandable manner without the dryness of a textbook. A bit more contemporary than Ben Freudenburg's classic The Family Friendly Church (which is still a must read). For those wanting a readable book on marriage and family ministry that stays closer to the biblical text I suggest Rob Rienow's Visionary Parenting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Making parents spiritual mentors, February 9, 2009

This review is from: Building Faith at Home: Why Family Ministry Should Be Your Church's #1 Priority (Hardcover)
Our church is in the process of trying to empower parents to take responsibility for their kids' spiritual development. The main idea we're pursuing is that it's the parents and not the church who have the Biblical responsibility.

The problem we've run into is that there's not a lot of practical ideas out there on how to do that. This book was pretty good in that regard, although we're now going to buy the package they have that includes their classes for parents.

Well worth your time if you're pursuing these ideas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, January 19, 2011

The book strikes the right emphasis and tone. Parents need to recognize their vital role in the spiritual formation of their children. Some have gone to the extreme and abandoned their position as parents, while others have reacted too far abandoned the church. Neither is right. There should be no competition between church and home. Parents must raise their children in the truths of Jesus Christ, and partner with the church (the BODAY OF CHRIST) for lifelong faith.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for church leaders, September 14, 2007
This review is from: Building Faith at Home: Why Family Ministry Should Be Your Church's #1 Priority (Hardcover)
Building Faith at Home: Why Faith at Home Must Be Your Church's #1 Priority

Building Faith at Home is a practical resource book for pastors/church leaders to help equip parents to make their home Christ-centered and to teach them to be the spiritual leaders in their children's lives.

Mark Holmen offers insight and suggestions based on his own church experiences. Building Faith at Home is inspiring and valuable for anyone who serves in a church. This book has made an impact on how I will do ministry now and in the future. As a children's and youth leader, I realized that my ministries need to come alongside parents to support them and encourage them in their journey of implementing faith at home. No matter what walk of life we are in, we all have a responsibility of bringing Christ into the center of our home.

Making faith at home a priority will have an everlasting impact in both your church and the families it serves. I recommend Building Faith at Home to use as a resource to help you get started.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accelerate your Family Ministry vision, February 13, 2011
There is a lot of talk about "family ministry" in the church today. For some, "family ministry" means adding a father/son retreat to the calendar. For others, it means inviting parents to youth group once a month. Church+Home brings together a biblical foundation, compelling statistics, and Mark's personal journey as a husband, father, pastor, and missionary - all to help church leaders take the next step in embracing the Great Commission plan for the church. I am confident that if your church staff reads this book, it will spark needed conversation (perhaps even debate), and will move your church in the right direction, for the glory of God.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST for church leaders, November 16, 2008
This review is from: Building Faith at Home: Why Family Ministry Should Be Your Church's #1 Priority (Hardcover)
After helping church leaders understand the importance of passing the responsibility of spiritual training and leadership back to parents, this book shares practical tools to help your church train today's parents on how to teach their children the faith. It brings HOPE for the next generation church. Without implementing the concepts in this book, I fear that Christianity in America may be extinct within two generations.
