1.0 out of 5 stars read some other book if you can
I've read a numerous computer/network related books. This book had by far the worst organization, and unnecessary complexity that i had ever seen. I haven't read other GIS-related books yet, so i cant compare it with other Geographic Information Sys books.
It "might" be good for people who have had a lot of network experience. But its not for those who are novice...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great GIS infrastructure design book, June 27, 2010

This review is from: Building a GIS: System Architecture Design Strategies for Managers (DVD-ROM)
This book provides information about how to start designing a GIS infrastructure. It explains an information technology infrastructure that includes web, application, and database servers, network protocols, history of GIS, and tools for planning a GIS. This is a great book if you already have an understanding of IT concepts and theories. It's still a good book for someone who wants to learn about GIS/IT infrastructure, but having an understanding before you read this book will help a lot.

By-the-way, ESRI provides a free technical article regarding GIS infrastructure design. However, this book provides excel sheet templates and examples on how to use the excel infrastructure planning tools.

I would recommend this book to anyone!
