5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best book written on VB and the Internet, November 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Building Internet Applications With Visual Basic/Book and Cd-Rom (Paperback)
The only sad part about this book is that it was never updated for to a new version. Covering Winsock is still applicable but extra chapters on using inet and browser controls would have updated the book quite well. As a reference for the internet it is the only book written for non-perl hackers that clearly explains the how's and why's of the internet. Most of the books since then have either been too product dependent or lame.

5.0 out of 5 stars Have you ever said: "Man, I wish my FTP client would ____!"?, December 20, 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: Building Internet Applications With Visual Basic/Book and Cd-Rom (Paperback)
Wow! When I first read this one, I learned alot about how the internet worked. Although the material is a little dated now, it explains in plain english how all the basic internet functions work and how to build you own applications to handle them. Perfect for VB programmers new to internet development, this book and CD are an excellent reference with hundreds of RFCs indexed for use in a web browser. The source code for the applications new to the book are great starting points for totally customized net tools. If you're looking for cutting edge coolness, move on, this one's outdated. But, if you want to understand, if you want it done your way, then you need this book
