Book Description

September 1998
Lotus Notes and Domino have long been the leading groupware products used by companies wishing to improve internal communications and streamline business processes. Now that Lotus has brought Notes fully into the Internet age with Domino 5.0, it's a natural choice as the foundation of an intranet (internal company networks built using Internet technology.) In this book, author Steve Krantz first introduces the Internet, intranets, and the new Notes and Domino Release 5.0. He then helps you analyze your requirements and guides you through the step-by-step process of planning, designing, and implementing an intranet based on Domino 5.0. This fully updated Third Edition has the latest information on enterprise data integration through Domino, Notes Migration/Coexistence Tools, Lotus Knowledge Management, and more. Included with this book is a personal password necessary to access the companion Web site which provides up-to-the-minute Domino 5.0/intranet news, updates to the book, expanded information, and other helpful intranet resources. This book/Web site combination is unbeatable!

1.0 out of 5 stars Notes Professionals: Steer away from this book, February 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Building Intranets With Lotus Notes & Domino 5.0 (Paperback)
I'm sorry, but this is a very disappointing book in regards to Notes/Domino. It does a good job on a very basic level (what could a company do with an intranet (I hate that phrase, btw...), but it does not do justice to R5.

Also - the promised "special, members-only website" is a big disappointment as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not written for technical folks, February 4, 1999

This review is from: Building Intranets With Lotus Notes & Domino 5.0 (Paperback)
If you're looking for a technical overview of the Domino Server and Notes Client, look elsewhere. This book was written for your pointy-haired boss, not for you.

No useful technical details are provided in the book or the website.

On the plus side: It does provide a nice overview of Intranets. The glossary might be useful for those who don't understand 'Intranet' from 'Internet'.

2.0 out of 5 stars out-dated info, January 8, 2001
By A Customer
First off, although I own this book, I never read it. I was ABOUT to read it, but flipping through it I noticed a table comparing Lotus Notes to 'traditional intranets' that was dated from 1996. Considering this book was published in 2000, that's completely unacceptable. That information is COMPLETELY irrelevant now. I noticed a few other references to information that seemed out-dated (e.g., 28.8 connection speeds, etc.) so I put the book down. I don't know how good the information is, but I'm assuming the date it was published has nothing to do with the date it was written.
