5.0 out of 5 stars This was an enjoyable project I am glad I did it., June 5, 1999
This review is from: Building a Jawbone Kayak (Paperback)
I bought the book and just finished the kayak. I found the book to be very good instruction manual on building the kayak,I have a beginning to intermediate experience in woodworking.

I found that a few of the instructions were not very clear but going by my instincts everything worked out O.K. The project took me 3 weeks to complete working 2-3 hours per day. I had to purchase all the materials and my cost was $200. This would be a good project if you have materials to recycle into the construction of the Kayak.

The Basic construction of the kayak is as follows: First you build a frame from ripped plywood strips, then cover this with canvas, and then waterproof the canvas.

When complete the kayak is a very water worthy vessel and is fast and quiet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb book; easy to follow instructions for the beginner!, April 1, 1999
This review is from: Building a Jawbone Kayak (Paperback)
I built one of these kayaks described within for less than $50CDN... it is sturdy, flexible, elegant, and will never sink completely (all wood and canvas)! The text is clear and concise (the book includes full-sized plans); the author has taught many a building seminar creating these boats and knows what he's talking about. Highly recommended for those who want a kayak or canoe but can't afford the usual high price and don't mind getting glue on their hands and a few splinters...
