An excellent, comprehensive, in-depth, cover-to-cover read!,

This review is from: Building & Managing Virtual Private Networks (Paperback)
This comprehensive and well-written book on VPNs is perfect for the technical and non-technical audience. As a person who has to develop technical and sales training on VPN products, I consider this my best resource for both audiences. All the details of IPSec, L2TP, L2F, VPN design (including ISP, firewall, router considerations)VPN hardware and software are covered in great depth. The business case for VPNs is also covered quite well. This book is well worth the price and Wiley Publishing should be proud!

Solid Intro to VPNs,

This review is from: Building & Managing Virtual Private Networks (Paperback)
I have to agree with some of the other reviews here. I just finished the book and I found it to a be good, solid intro in VPNs. Book was published in 1998 so it's just a littled dated, but the author tries very hard to overcome this with many references to advancing technologies such as QoS, MPLS, PKI and such. In all, I think this a great resource to start with, and then one can choose to get more in depth with key management, extranets, security, VoIP, etc.

Good solid information,

The book touches on enough information to give a firm understanding of the elements of a VPN. Some portions are somewhat redundant and certain explanations are a little difficult to grasp in the first reading. Overall I would recommend this book for anyone who would like an understanding of the issues surrounding a proper VPN deployment. The book seems to flow in the direction a compnay would take when implementing a VPN --- almost providing a blueprint for actions to take.

Well-written introduction to VPNs,

The author gives a very clear and thorough introduction to the different aspects of VPNs. I found the book rather IP centered and lacking QoS coverage. All the same, this must be one of the best and most usefull VPN books so far.
