This is a very impressive collection of the modern buildings that exist in Houston. After reading this book you should be convinced that Houston is one of the top cities in America for mid-century modern architecture. The only thing that keeps it from being perfect for me is that the photos could be a little crisper. This is just a printing issue. I have seen some of the original photos that these came from (a friend and collaborator of mine is one of the photographers) and they are beautiful, but I guess to squeeze all those photos into a book and make it cost under $20 some printing corners had to be cut. Aside from that, the book is full of knowledge about buildings that comprise Houston's modern legacy. I will use it as a handy reference for years to come!

I love the photos in this book - they are absolutely a blast from the past, as some of these structures do not exist anymore. Hopefully we will learn from our mistakes and preserve the remaining ones!

Just wish that this book had more examples - it is really an overview of some larger, more famous structures. The real treat (and a 5th star) would be the addition of some of the homes that still exists today...

Very interesting book - especially for those of us who remember what Houston was like in the early and mid-twentieth century.

Other than the poor packaging and creased edges, this book has great information, as well as, photos.

Ms. Mod captures the essential elements that shaped Houston's modern character as a dynamic center of creative optimism that drove it into international prominence during the last century. If one is looking to recover that now waning spirit of self reliance and "can do" attitude, this would be a good source to rekindle that energy within us.
