Valuable and practical reference, July 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Building and Painting Scale Figures (Scale Modeling Handbook) (Paperback)
This book appears very readable and practical. I spent 2 hours reading the first third and felt my purchase was well worth it. Many quality color examples of scaled miniature soldiers from many historical eras, mostly pre WWI.

The only reference you need, December 5, 2010
This review is from: Building and Painting Scale Figures (Scale Modeling Handbook) (Paperback)
I was lucky enough to pick up a new copy of this book in a model TRAIN store for $17.95...not realising how rare it is. I have read it cover to cover and have posted all my other miniature books on Ebay. This is the ONLY one you need. I agree with the other poster...it should be rereleased.

An incredibly valuable book about painting miniatures with oils, March 3, 2010
This review is from: Building and Painting Scale Figures (Scale Modeling Handbook) (Paperback)
I loved this book. I keep going back to it for reference and ideas for painting miniatures. I even bought Shep's follow-up books; "How to build dioramas" and his big anthology book.
Of the three I think this book is best read and well worth the value. If you're lucky enough, Shep Paine will even sign the book for you.
This book enticed me in to pick up some oil paints and testing my abilities at painting wih oils and it is a lot of fun and very relaxing.
I give this book an A-plus, I only wish it would be re-released.
