3.0 out of 5 stars Superficial and outdated, October 8, 1997

This review is from: Building and Flying RC Sailplanes and Electric Gliders (Rc Performance Series) (Paperback)
Being a enthousiastic RC-glider pilot, I have read this book to find it a bit superficial. For instance, it pays no attention to RC Glider contest flying (like F3B), it only mentions USA-build Gliders that already seem to be on the market for ages.

4.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat dated but still has a lot of good information, April 8, 2009

This review is from: Building and Flying RC Sailplanes and Electric Gliders (Rc Performance Series) (Paperback)
This book was written in 1993 and does not have new technology, such as information on gliders made out of foam (Multiplex Easy Star, for example). The battery chapter does not include NiMh batteries, but does have a discuss NiCad batteries in great detail.

However, there is still a lot of basic information that is quite useful. What I found helpful was the author's explanation of basic aerodynamics, sailplane launching (the new "discus" method is not included, though), and thermal flying. I haven't tried slope soaring yet, but there is a whole chapter devoted to that.
