1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible CD!!! March 27, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
My CD collection consists of over 1500 discs and this is one of the worst I've ever purchased. The re-mastering of the songs is almost unbearable. The only song on this CD that sounds OK is "To Know Him Is To Love Him"...but after hearing the re-mastering that Eric Records did of this same song on their CD, this one pales by comparison. I would not recommend this CD to anyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Important historic recordings January 24, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This CD neatly encapsulates all of the earliest recordings made by Phil Spector, all of which he performs (sings) on. However, this is not the full-blown "wall-of-sound" that Spector was later famous for; these were made while he was a teenager in L.A. If you want to hear everything by the Teddy Bears (including "To Know Him Is To Love Him", Spector's first disc and a #1 hit nationally in 1958) including the entire album released by Imperial, in stereo. It also includes non-LP tracks by The Teddy Bears, and 4 tracks by The Spectors Three, and an instrumental single released by Imperial under the name "Phil Harvey". The quality on the album tracks is very good; the best I've heard. The singles vary somewhat, from good to poor. Most of the problem is too much noise reduction! Still, if you don't have all of these records and you are a student of Phil Spector, this package is highly revealing. For example, The Teddy Bears recorded a version of "Unchained Melody" which Spector would later cut a smash version of by the Righteous Brothers.

The second vlulme of this series on Jasmine is a far more listenable set, call Designing The Wall Of Sound, which is a 2-CD set. On that volume, Spector is well on his way to become the master of pop production and songwriting that would in a couple of years make him an instant legend. By all means get both volumes for a fantastic insight into one of the true innovators of the rock era.
