For anyone interested in how Thoreau built his cabin beside Walden Pond, will find this book informative and
fun. I''m glad to own it!

When I was invited to teach a class in Jewish Poetry at my local synagogue, I asked several prominent American Jewish poets what I should use as a textbook. Every one answered "Voices within the Ark: the modern Jewish Poets." What a treasure it turned out to be! We spent a whole year on the poets who wrote originally in Hebrew and Yiddish, even inviting specialists in these languages to give talks in class.

Our first class of this term starts in a week, and I am looking forward to exploring, with my students, the Jewish poets who write in English,which is Book III of the anthology. This includes many poets I have been reading for years as well as many new names, all outstanding poets.

Another view of Jewishness is seen in this rich compendium of evocative Jewish poetry by modern masters of the craft as each page unfolds its richness of language with its own beauty and revealing emotional intensity. THE VOICES WITHIN THE ARK is edited by Howard Schwartz and Anthony Rudoph. It includes poets of the American scene and across the world as well. The general introduction provides a very necessary key to the enjoyment of this collection. END
