Book Description

October 15, 1998
This 277-page workbook contains fifteen chapters devoted to every aspect of personal preparation for the Year 2000 crisis. Subjects covered include how to obtain pure water supplies; safe methods of lighting and heating; sanitation, first aid and health care; a chapter for parents; four chapters on food: storage, preparation, production, and preservation; information about communications, safety, transportation; and suggestions for financial preparation and record-keeping. A special feature found in no other Y2K publication is the unique 41-page Action Checklist that allows the reader to begin preparations immediately and keep track of their activities and purchases. Four appendices provide information on nutrition, preparation for pets, Internet links on Y2K and related subjects, and an extensive catalog/resource index that is keyed to product information in the chapters. Using only this book, the reader can find all the necessary information and resources to safely prepare for any uncertain times, including weather disasters, periods of unemployment or ill health, social unrest, and especially the approaching Y2K problem.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Lia Danks became concerned about Y2K several years ago and set about making up a preparedness checklist for her own use. She found that many others shared her concerns and asked her for copies. What eventually evolved is "Building Your Ark", a 220-page workbook with an additional 41 pages of step-by-step checklists that will enable the average person to carry through plans for covering anything from a natural disaster to the "worst case" Y2K scenario.

Fifteen comprehensive chapters deal with meeting the daily needs of ourselves, our families, neighbors, and domestic animals. One of the most valuable features of this book is the inclusion in each chapter of sources for equipment and supplies, and further reading. Four appendicies cover basic nutrition, supply catalogs and other resources, pet preparations, and Internet links for Y2K information.

The "Action Checklist" is the heart of the book. We suppose that an around-the-world sailor or someone wintering over in a remote part of Alaska would benefit from a similar detailed list. A group of friends and neighbors working together could assess communal needs using this list, which could be the basis for setting action deadlines and assigning individual responsibilities.

While this is a highly recommended book for those who expect the worst from Y2K, it can also serve as a useful reference for anyone who values independence and self-reliant living." -- "Back Home" magazine, July/Aug., 1999

From the Author

"Building Your Ark" started out as a personal preparation list for myself and my family, but so many friends asked for a copy that I decided to share the fruits of over 20 years of research and practical living with others. I never intended to do anything more than just put up a download file on the Internet, but customer demand made me realize that many people without this resource would be left out unless I published a printed version. My hope is that the information in this book will help people move through uncertain times with a minimum of hardship. If that happens, then my efforts will have been worth it.
