About the Author

Matthew Moran is a business coach and technology consultant with more than 20 years of experience. He began his career as a data entry clerk at Blue Cross of California (Anthem). Over the next 6 years, he created a variety of database systems and a large automated document assembly system. The success of this system led to several consulting engagements in the healthcare and legal industries.

His consulting focuses on business-centric application development, with a focus on workflow automation. His clients include Northrop Grumman, HealthNet, Power-one, Maracay Homes, Waste Management, Primerica Financial, and others. He coaches I.T. departments on concept over process, a business-focused methodology for more proactive and solution-oriented technologies. He also coaches entrepreneurs and small businesses on matters of I.T., content strategies, online presence, and social media. He is a keynote and workshop presenter, speaking to colleges, professional organizations, and I.T. groups. He is also a songwriter and performer, performing solo and with his band.

He lives in Los Angeles, California, with his youngest daughter and their three dogs.

More About the Author

I'm Matthew Moran. I do a few things, so hold on to your hats! Beside the two books here - and more to come, I am a business coach, speaker, & songwriter. (yes, songwriter, we'll get to that). Most importantly, I am a father, dog owner, and lover of life!

My latest book, Building Your I.T. Career, focuses on proactive and empowered career development for computer professionals. It is not written from a theoretical perspective or as an academic. I am a 20+ year veteran of the I.T. industry - as a programmer, network administrator, project manager, CIO, and consultant.

I still consult, plus I speak on professional development, proactive career advancement, online collaboration tools and social media, and creativity.

Finally, I am a songwriter and have toured nationally, performing at small venues and house concerts. I also have a band based in Southern California.

You can reach me on the contact page of my website (below). I answer every email I receive - sometimes short answers but I do my best.

Thanks,
Matt

I'm considering exploring IT as a career choice and found this book here on Amazon. I was beside myself with joy when I looked at the Table of Contents and thought to myself that this is the perfect book to outline what I should do to break into IT. I was disappointed because it give a great overview of how to find a job, but does not cover the various certifications and degrees and what kinds of jobs can be secured with that knowledge. For example: Technical Support, what steps do I have to take to find employment for someone who knows nothing about this industry at all? What classes should I take? What certification should I get? Is getting a Microsoft Certification enough to find employment as a Technical Support Specialist or do I need a college degree as well?

For someone already in the industry or someone who already knows the direction they want to take, then this book is perfect for you as it gives you all you need to know to find a job.

Building your IT Career

A very good book. The way in which it was organized was very specific, controlled, and makes a great reference.

In most reference books, it took a long time for authors to realize that longer isn't necessarily better. In this book, the chapters are very concise and allow for the quick finding of the data that is most pertinent for the reader. Each individual chapter is cross-referenced against each other allowing for someone to find out not only about 'resumes', for example, but how to structure your resume, how to direct it to people's specific needs, and they are able to get 'in and out' quick to answer their questions.

This book covers a lot of basics, but also covers so many items that people overlook. When I read the book, there were so many little facts that I'd have taken for granted, but were mentioned in details to prevent missing the obvious.

I'd recommend this book to anyone across the range in the IT industry who is looking for a better job to the person just emerging from college looking to break into this field. Go get this book and it'll help you get a good jump on what you've wanted for a long time - direction to getting the job you want in the IT world.
