5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent mitt!
This oven mitt is great because the material is thick enough that no heat gets through when transferring pots or pulling things out of the oven. Plus it looks so nice and isn't too bulky.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmmm ...
So the polka dots make for a cute oven mitt, but my primary concern was with heat resistance. On here, they claim it's resistant up to 500F. But when I went to move one of the metal racks in my 450F oven, the mitt started to melt in the areas where it had made contact with the metal rack and between 2 and 3 seconds after I gripped the rack, I could feel the heat burning...

So the polka dots make for a cute oven mitt, but my primary concern was with heat resistance. On here, they claim it's resistant up to 500F. But when I went to move one of the metal racks in my 450F oven, the mitt started to melt in the areas where it had made contact with the metal rack and between 2 and 3 seconds after I gripped the rack, I could feel the heat burning my hand. Not impressed. Since then, I've used another mitt for moving the metal racks around. But this particular mitt seems to be okay (i.e. doesn't melt or burn my hand) when in contact with most other metal pans, french ovens, etc.

1.0 out of 5 stars VERY POOR QUALITY - IT MELTS!, May 25, 2011
I recently bought 2 of these because I loved the design. Best looking oven mittens I've ever seen. So here I go & use them & I reach into the oven to grab my oven glass tray & suddenly I smell melted plastic. I put the container down & realize that the 'protective' neoprene of the mitten has melted onto the glass container it made contact with. So now my glass container has a black mark of melted neoprene & my almost new mitten now has an ugly 'bald' patch. So disappointed, aren't these oven mittens? resistant to heat? that neoprene has nothing 'protective' about it. $ gone down the drain. Brand new.

1.0 out of 5 stars MELTS!, April 18, 2011
I was so excited to get it, but if you get something out of the oven that's really hot, the oven mitt starts to melt. That's why I have to give only 1 star. The design and fit is great, but it doesn't do what it's intended to.

1.0 out of 5 stars Melts at Normal Oven Temperature, June 30, 2011
By

These mitts look great, but they melt and give off toxic fumes. I guess you could wear these outside and use them for snowball fights or building igloos. They say that the mitts are resistant up to 500F, but they began to melt at ca. 475F when we were making pizza. They melted when pulling out the metal rack inside the oven. The colored part is even more delicate than the black part and almost melted all the way through when it touched the lower metal rack for 2-3 seconds. These mitts should work at least as good as or even better than traditional, old-fashioned mitts, and they fail miserably. Final verdict: stay away, or you might get burned (literally!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Renzo oven mitts, January 20, 2011

I have owned these gloves for some time and liked them enough to give them as a gift. I find them comfortable and easy to use. They keep my hands safe from heat and I can insert my hands into the oven to pull out a pan without any problem. They only need to be rinsed if food gets onto them. They dry quickly. I recommend them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Melted within a couple of weeks!, December 12, 2011
I thought this looked like a good oven mitt to replace my old one. Great colors and seemed to be highly heat resistant. Not so much!! The area at the tip of the fingers melted, then ripped within a few weeks of use. It's now become utterly useless. Thanks, Built.

Just like many others here, I've had the palm of this mitt melt at normal oven temperatures, and have been burned through the mitt. I've only had it for a week, so this is not an issue of wear. It's not just that this is a poor quality product, it is a shockingly unsafe one. I'm surprised they haven't been sued.

Goes on and off in a snap. Protects hands very well from heat. If your pie is leaking liquid, the liquid isn't going to soak into the mitt and burn you. Nice and long, covers most of my forearm (and I am tallish.) Not icky next to the skin like silicone mitts. Well made and nicely finished.

One remark about the Nolita stripe design: the fabric has both broad and narrow stripes. The broad stripes, not pictured in the stock photo, are very pink, while the narrow ones shown are more earth-toned. I definitely got more pink than I had bargained for. Also, my two mitts are not identical, since they have the broad and narrow stripes on reversed sides, if you know what I mean.

Best oven mitt I've ever used. All other mitts used to leak the heat and become hot in a short time. With this you never feel the heat. Ever. The funny shape because of the the thumb placement is a little awkward at first, but the ergonomics quickly make sense.
