What would make it even better,
By
This review is from: Built for Speed (Audio CD)
Built for Speed is the best of the Stray Cats albums, and is excellent throughout. What would make it even better however is if DCC would include their most excellent cover of "You Can't Hurry Love" (Originally released as the flip-side of "Rock This Town" 45) as an extra track. Are you listening DCC?

Reference Standard Rackabilly,

THANK GOD they re-issued this classic! It has been impossible to find, even in used CD shops on vinyl! This is THE ORIGINAL rockabilly album, the one by which all others ought to be measured. It has hard pounding tunes (Runaway Boys, Rumble in Brighton) and ballads (Lonely Summer Nights) showing the band's depth and style. No collection is complete without it.

Built For Listening (Speed) ... The Stray Cats,

This review is from: Built For Speed [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
I have an original pressing of this album. I don't know if an original pressing is worth a lot of money or not much money but I don't want to play it too much and wear it out. I am glad to see that it's been reissued on vinyl album. To preserve my original pressing of this album I will buy the reissued pressing. Now down to the songs. I was a Stray Cats fan when I was a sophomore in high school back in the 1982/83 school year. An instant fan. Seen them in concert once and saw The Brian Setzer Orchestra three times. Brian Setzer is an excellent guitarist. Slim Jim on drums and Lee Rocker on bass adds to the overall experience. When the Stray Cats first went onto the scene in the late '70s they were thought of as new wave or punk because the norm was long haired bell bottom rock with loud guitars. The Cats mixed traditional rockabilly sounds with a new wave or punk fashion statement. The Polecats and The Rockats were other great bands of that era. very song on The Built For Speed album is excellent. The combination of analog format and these classic neo-rockabilly songs is a great combination that can not be surpassed. I will order this reissue vinyl pressing very shortly. I must suggest to all you younger listeners who like The Stray Cats to buy this album on vinyl and hear how rockabilly was really meant to be heard. If you don't have a turntable then buy one. There are plenty out there on the market. For those of you who are my age and loved The Cats still and did back then but only have the CD format then get the vinyl. You will hear the difference. I am not against CDs. I have tons of CDs including The Stray Cats CDs and out of convenience listen to them but do listen to my vinyl collection on a regular basis too. My vinyl collection starts with the vinyl I bought as a youth in the early '80s, pretty much "new wave" for lack of better terms, some pop rock, some rock that was current then that you might call classic rock, then used records I bought that were from a previous era like the 1950s thru the 1970s. CDs aren't bad at all but I can hear the difference between CD and record. MP3 are very convenient especially if you are exercising or walking. The iPod really is a revolution but for listening at home I don't normally listen to MP3. Stick to CD for a good sound and convenience and listen to vinyl for a whole different listening experience.

Good Rockabilly Retro,

There's nothing wrong with the Stray Cats brand of retro rockabilly I suppose, but fans of the genre may as well stick to the originals. BUILT FOR SPEED is a fine example of what the Cats were about if you're interested, and includes the two crucial cats tracks `Rock This Town' and `Stray Cat Strut'.
