Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Veer onto the human highway and into the gritty underbelly of Los Angeles, circa 1965-89. Your tour guide is Mr. Bukowski, the hard-drinking, chain-smoking Poet Laureate of the Underground, and his friends are as diverse as a sack full of stolen bottles from a midnight liquor store raid: disgruntled cartoon characters assuming human form, a disillusioned, suicidal movie star, a demented producer of classic children's movies, and even the ghost of Boris Karloff. Fasten your seat belts. It's going to be a wild ride.

He has this charming way of telling stories. I enjoyed the book so much, I ordered several more copies as gifts.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inside Hollywood Vignettes, September 14, 2008
By Brave Heart (California) - See all my reviews
Mr. Bukowski's rides could be set in vignettes on HBO with Danny Devito as the star. This would be the man's version of Tracy Ullman in Hollywood. The man theme can be interesting to a woman, even though Bukowski is set in an older Hollywood, looking at himself in the proverbial mirror, usually across the bar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Flash Fiction, August 8, 2008
By Keith (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews
In Mr. Bukowski's Wild Ride, 2008, Trace Publications, Rodger Jacobs gives good flash. Wild Ride is a sinful treat, an illegal cigarette with coffee after waffles and fried chicken, a sticky dream that you only remember the last breath. Easy to read and laugh at on the bar stool of your favorite roadhouse, highball, or dive bar, Jacobs puts on Charles Bukowski's, scuffed black leather, institutional, 3-eyelet shoes, and encounters a few Los Angles icons (Bukowski's Dragnet, Bukowski Meets Boris Karloff) to a timeless angst professional folk hero (Bukowski's Metamorphosis) and beyond (Bukowski In Space, Bukowski the Transvestite Nun.)

Rodger Jacobs picks up a butt off the streets of S. California's common-grid culture, and floats it in a wine, beer, or whisky glass in the fine slurred- tradition of modern grime fiction. Mr Bukowski's Wild Ride is gritty with a smooth; shoot it down once or double, no chaser, and repeat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Witty, wildly imaginative and entertaining
All right, so I wrote the preface to Rodger Jacobs' book. I would never have lent my name to this if I hadn't read it first and been thoroughly entertained. Read more
