I bought this particular bulb as I have a light fixture that hangs low in the middle of the kitchen table. The light from the standard incandescent bulb shines directly into the eyes of anyone looking in the direction of the fixture. Raising the fixture is not an option, so I purchased this bulb in hopes that the light that normally emits from the bottom of the bulb would be reflected up inside the bulb and not into the eyes of anyone around the light fixture. It worked! We can sit around the table and people can speak to each without the eventual headache that develops from the interrogation light. My only other comment is that if you normally use a 60w incandescent and you are thinking of replacing it with a half chrome bulb, consider using a 75w half chrome unless of course the fixture states that a bulb larger than 60w should not be used. I did notice that some light is lost in using the half chrome bulb, but the heat generation seems to be the same as a std. incandescent bulb. good luck.

**UPDATE** I've had this bulb for just over one month and IT BURNED OUT?!!!!!! Seriously?!! I'm SO disappointed given this was more expensive than your average bulb.... GET A DIFFERENT BRAND!

We have a high-hanging lamp above our kitchen table that leaves the bulb pretty exposed and thus always shining right in our eyes. We bought this to keep our eyes safer and diffuse the light a bit so the bright top of the bulb wasn't always exposed.

At first I thought this bulb might make the lamp seem darker, but it actually seems to give off just as much light as a regular bulb but is easier on the eyes. Definitely a good choice if you have a hanging lamp with exposed bulb!

i have a hanging light where a normal bulb was too blinding. i bought both this bulb and the G25 Globe style. The "standard" bulb shape of this one results in more of the un-chromed part being exposed, depending on the fixture. this style is probably a better fit for a deeper fixture, where as the G25 Globe style is better for a shallower fixture.

the bulb feels much sturdier than a standard bulb, which is good, given the extra price.

No problems, but I ordered the wrong size. Our bathroom bulbs are more globe shaped, and these are shaped like a "regular" light bulb. Oops. We will still use them though and I will be more careful next time.

Ordered six of these at the same time, all arrived promptly and in good shape. Great product, except.... All installed at the same time (three per fixture, two identical fixtures on the same circuit), one burned out in less than a week, the others are still going at this time (three weeks since instillation). Guess I will have to order another set- cannot find in local stores, and have not found any other vendors. But at this price, may not be able to keep them in the fixtures unless this one quick burn out was a fluke.

definitely better than taking the full glare off the dining room light. i wish there was a 1/4 chrome, though. haven't been able to find any.

I have a low-hanging light fixture over my dining room table. I couldn't stand the glare from a regular light bulb. This bulb works perfectly. It provides enough light without the glare!

As another reviewer has noted, beware of the quality of these bulbs. I ordered just one as a test to see if I would like it (was 60W enough?), and I still don't know because it didn't work at all. In any event, I'm perfectly happy with a half-chrome 100Watt that's also available via Amazon. I would be wary of ordering this one.
