My Mother is Japanese, so when growing up we had only Bulldog sauce for use when having Tonkatsu (Pork) made by taking the pork cutlet or chop or whatever cut and dredging it in egg wash and Panko bread crumbs, then frying until cooked and crisp. The Bulldog sauce has a unique sweet but tangy flavor that is wonderful! As a parent with three kids I would make chicken katsu using the tenderloin strip of chicken meat and panko fried. I'd serve with fresh rice and bulldog sauce. My kids love it! If you are unable to purchase Bulldog sauce where you live, you may be able to find the Kikoman brand of Katsu sauce in the international section of your grocery store next to where soy sauce is located. It is not exactly the same but is close and will suffice in a pinch.

I first tasted Bull Dog over 20 years ago, at a Japanese restaurant in Northern NH....I tried it on Kushi-Katu (a chicken appetizer) and on my fried rice. Wasn't all that crazy about it in the beginning, but that soon changed. It's wonderful as a marinade on chicken, beef or pork. I've also used some in my meatloaf, and I'll bet it'd be quite tasty on grilled burgers.
Love the opportunity to buy this in quantity. The only place we can find it is up in northern NH & it's a long ride for Bull Dog. Makes our lives much better to be able to buy this through Amazon, that's for sure!

If you haven't tried it, go for it! Enjoy!

Can't find this in any local Asian stores/markets. I haven't found this product in a local store since 2009. I don't know why all I can find is the bland regular Tonkatsu sauce. There is no better Tonkatsu sauce than Bulldog brand. You won't be sorry. I buy this bulk package so it lasts us a while. I would say 5 bottles lasts our family about 6 months. I make a lot of Pork and Chicken Katsu...probably at least 3x a month. My family drenches their meat with this sauce; it is delicious. Probably not the healthiest, but oh so yummy!!

It's the "sauce". If you are eating breaded cutlets without this, you are doing it wrong. Do yourself a favor and order a case.

My only complaints are that it came with the 5 bottles taped together, so the tape ruined some of the labels on the bottles and one bottle was kinda banged up on a corner at the bottom. (the 5 pack was probably dropped on the floor before it was put in a box after being taped).

This is some great stuff. It is the official tonkatsu sauce. Those who don't know what tonkatsu/katsu is, google it. This stuff is also great with Japanese Curry Rice (mix can be purchased at WalMart). Also great with breaded, fried oysters. Locally, this is tough to find. I have to travel an hour to an oriental store to buy this stuff. Amazon makes this convenient and it's also cheaper.

Used this when I cooked in a small Japanese restaurant in the 80's. My favourite dish is Yakisoba - noodles with cabbage and carrot, all mixed in the sauce. Warning - it does contain sugar.

The best Katsu sauce is Bulldog Brand. My cousins liked it so much that they just put it on bread to eat it. Everyone loves it.
