Life changing! An attitude adjusting great read!!,

This review is from: The Bulldog Attitude (Paperback)
If you are a parent, a business owner, a teacher, or anyone on the planet who deals with people and would love for folks, to include yourself, to attain and operate at full potential, this is a must read book. Get one for yourself, read it, then order another dozen or so for all the folks you care about! ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING! I will be buying many more of these for those I meet in the future, truly helped shake me out of my funk and got me to see what I need to do to get to the next level.

This book is destined to fire you up and motivate you to get your life in gear. I've read it a couple of times and each time I get something new out of it. It doesn't take a long time to read...but you'll take a long hard look at your life after doing so!

Doug Giles is destined to be one of the great writers of our modern age. Emphasis on modern. His writing style is youthfull and keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what crazy word structure he'll use next. Political correctness is not something he has bowed down too either. The content of the book can only be described as throwing a can of gasoline on a dimly lit fire. It will take the lazy gene out of a hound dog. I highly recommend the book for anyone struggling with complacency.

Some readers may not care much for Giles' brand of saracasm, slaps at celebrities such as Michael Jackson, and so forth. I have three words for such readers...GET OVER IT! Stop being so sensitive. Ignore the delivery if you must and focus on the message.
Giles is on target. He skewers the Christian (and that's who this book is directed at, not the nonbeliever) and slaps him or her around. He makes us ask ourselves, "Am I a poodle, making excuses, going with the flow, listening to the Word but not putting it into practice?" I found myself really convicted by this book - really challenged to not only get The Bulldog Attitude going in my life, but to start looking for ways to make God's word a means of action, not just belief. The book is entirely consistent with Biblical principles in every regard - especially the book of James in Scripture which calls on us to be believers of action, not words. Giles also demands that we figure out what you want and how you can serve, get to it, and never, never give up. Again and again Giles wisely invokes the image of the bulldog as a breed that takes on bigger, meaner dogs and wins through sheer perserverence. He cut my ego down to size and showed me where I'd let the Lord down, big time, as I was reading this. And he made me realize that I'm not doing the Body of Christ a darned bit of good by sitting in church, praying, and arguing on the Internet if those are the only things I do. The only way I could improve this book would be to suggest that Giles include more specifics for the Poodle-turned-Bulldog. He says, "Now get to it," but I'm asking, "How?" WHERE does a person start? What acts does he or she undertake? What are some simple and practical ways to adopt The Bulldog Attitude in everyday life? This book provides a much needed kick in the pants for the lukewarm Christian, and some much-needed encouragement for those who are already "hot" and giving life their all.

Attitude is everything and the Bulldog attitude is the one to have. I love the bold, concise and humorous approach that Giles uses to jack up your spirit and make you live the overcoming life without sounding like another motivational speaker. The book reminds you that God, country, family and great causes are still worth living for at all costs. I've read it several times already and will be getting copies for friends, families and coworkers. It is in my top ten of books to read this year and I'll be flipping through it on a monthly basis for wisdom and inspiration.

It's about time!,

I've given this book to friends, family, and co-workers, because sometimes in life you just need an attitude adjustment. Giles challenges you directly with practical and relevant comparisons for today's sensory overloaded and morally empty world. When reading, you often find yourself asking, "Am I a leader or a follower?" Throughout the book it is easy to figure out where you are on his Bulldog-Poodle spectrum. Giles effectively communicates solid advice for success with slapstick humor and a healthy dose of cynicism. With very little thought it is easy to make the connection how the ideas embedded in this book apply to both your professional and personal life. All you poodles out there it's time to stop getting yanked by life's leash and get the bulldog attitude.

This book is Excellent!,

This review is from: The Bulldog Attitude (Paperback)
In all honesty, I had every intention of reading this book. I was dedicated to read this book as soon as I finished the book I am currently reading. However, once I looked the book up and saw the reviews, I was so intrigued to figure out some of the negative reviews that I stopped everything and read it immediately, cover to cover. This book is an excellent book. I am almost positive to say that some of the reviews were from people who haven't really read the book. The illistrations have nothing to do with degrating the reader nor does the book put down an individual based on who they are. There is nothing in this book that suggests that at all. It does, however, state that if you want to succeed you have to "fight" for it and also that if you want to whine and wimper about feeling sorry for yourself then you are going to lose the battle in life because life calls for strong bulldogs not sissy poodles. You have to have a bulldog attitude and go into life wanting to conquer and not bail out when things get hard. That statement is in fact true. I have given this book to several adult friends and several teenage kids that I know after reading this book. Pastor Doug Giles simply speaks truth in this book and If you are going to scrutinize the truth then I would have to state that you must be a poodle who bails out and doesn't "fight" for your life and beliefs. This is a fantastic book for all ages. It is an easy read, easy to understand book as he uses the perfect example to encourage the reader. If your looking for a change and can't find your direction this book will be a great place to start.

I don't agree,

I think one reviewer was too harsh. The book was written to promote the author and his talk show. His style is like a wise-cracker, so that's his style. Two stars for that. If he had something to say I would give the other three.

Why all the insults?,

I've been a Christian for a long time, and I don't understand why some people have to bash others to make their point...maybe if we reach out to gays, lesbians and liberals with a civil attitude of respect even tho we don't agree, they will see Jesus in us and will be drawn to his message of love and salvation...Doug Giles seems really full of himself which is just the opposite of how Jesus was with others....the book makes me feel sad.

Poor research and disappointing,
By Fred Schwartz (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Bulldog Attitude (Paperback)
Quite honestly, from the promos, I was expecting a read that would be challenging and informative. Instead, Giles poorly attempts to engage the reader through cliches' and his own brand of catchy-phrases as "hooks" for the next page. Sure, his target audience obviously is not the adult market, but please, at least engage young people with intellectual acumen. My kids wanted to throw the book across the room (that would have been okay if a liberal were in the way :). Maybe wait for one to resell as "used" at $.95 and then get a copy. On a more serious note, Christians must learn to engage the real world with real arguments that cut to the quick and challenge thinking. Breezy and trite presentations simply will not do in a postmodern, "truth-is-what-I-feel" world. On a more positive note: cute cover.
