4.0 out of 5 stars Not For the Amateur Installer...
If you have NEVER installed a Stereo CD Player or any other device on a Car, this product is not for you. If you know how to use and have a Digital Volt Meter or 12VDC Test Probe, and Have Installed one or Two Stereo's you can do this. (Although I think it's more Intimidating than a stereo because of all the wires, but the good news is that you don't use them all.)

My Installation is on a 92 4Runner why on a 92? I wanted the Door Unlock/Lock feature which is expensive on most other units and additional relays required. So I'm not only lazy I'm cheap. (Note: No additional relays needed on the Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi's or Ford's with Keyless entry. But if you have a GM Ford or Chrysler vehicle you will need additional relays.) Another Hint that this is not for the amateur to install is the line "Topics to check with the Customer:" in the Instructions. Meaning that the instructions are written for the professional not the consumer. Before you buy this go to website http://www.BullDogSecurity.com and print out the installation instructions for the Model 6002PRO. Read them and see if you can handle it. Also a good idea is to print out the wiring diagram for your car also. (They call it a wiring diagram but it's really a color code chart.) Support is (800) 878-8007 or techsupp@bulldogsecurity.com but I never called them. (So I can't tell you good or bad on service)

Required Items: (Their List)

* A computer Friendly test probe or multi-meter

* Electrical Tape

* Extra 16AWG wire (I didn't need any, wires plenty long enough!)

* Wire Strippers/Cutters (They Suggest all wires wrapped and taped.)

Required Items: (My List)

* Philips Screw Driver (To take off Dash Panels)

* Needle Nose Pliers

* Snub Nose Pliers

* Drill or access to one "Preferable Cordless" with 1/8" Bit for Mounting of Siren, and 1/4" for Dash Mounting of alarm LED.

* Complete access to set of Socket and Wrench set for your car. In case you have to temporarily move something under the hood. (I had to take out my cruise control for a minute to place the siren behind it.) A 10mm is needed to tighten the siren on to the bracket.

* 8" Nylon Tie wraps (Cheaper at Home-Depot and K-Mart, last resort Radio-Shack.)

* 8 - #16-#14AWG Tap Splices. Blue in Color, I suggest buying the 25 pack at Home Depot, you won't need all of them but it doesn't hurt to buy extra. (They want you to attach the wire differently, see printed out instructions, but Tap splice work ok, you just need a Multi-meter to check if connections are good.)

* Small amount of Silicone to put near wire when it goes through the firewall unless you get lucky like me. (See Below)

It's good to read the instructions, again. Installing the siren took me the longest cause I dropped my 10mm socket and couldn't find it. I also had a hard time finding a whole through `92 4Runner's firewall. After much frustration and then thinking, You know what they need? They need a blank plug through the firewall for people to do stuff like this. Sure enough after I said that Toyota Delivered, right near the back of the engine on the drivers side a nice blank black rubber plug. (Cut Slit in plug and Ta Da, near perfect waterproof connecting through firewall, I know a little of silicon and it would be, but I don't have any.)

Ok, now go inside the truck and complete the rest of this installation, this is where their wire diagram (or Color Code Diagram) comes in handy it also mentions where the wires are. Although on my list they used the word "behind" and "Speaker" on different lines after the Lock/Unlock door lines. (So it's not until I got frustrated I realized it meant. "Behind Speaker")

The other wiring went straight forward as the instructions said. (Mount the LED in a Center of the console if possible. The only problem was that when I activated the alarm the doors unlocked and when I deactivated the alarm the doors locked. I followed the instructions, so either the instructions were wrong or the wiring harness was wrong. (I didn't check I just reversed the wires.) So everything is working. (Although I didn't install the Ignition cut off, which I will later.) I especially like the auto activate. (Factory setting is off so you have to set it.) The nice thing is it beeps, then waits a while then locks the door. (This way it gives you a nice warning.) Then use the Tie wraps to clean up all the loose wires...I Don't recommend putting the BullDog Security Stickers on the car though, this way a Thief knows what the the weakness is, and how to bypass it. If you must have Stickers go to Radio Shack and get some. (The longer a Thief needs to figure out how to bypass your alarm the more chance of him leaving.) My 2cents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Choice Car Alarm, October 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Bulldog Security 6002PRO ProSeries Security System (Electronics)
This Bulldog alarm is great! All you need is some time and a pretty smart dad. The features are wonderful and compared to a Viper alarm, the Bulldog beats it in features and most definitely price. I strongly recommend this alarm for anyone who has a little bit of electronic smarts and has a little bit of time for installation.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bulldog 6002PRO Professional Car Alarm, April 4, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Bulldog Security 6002PRO ProSeries Security System (Electronics)
I purchased the 6002PRO, the alarm had problems from day one. The alarm had to be sent back to factory (at my expense) for an ajustment for sensitivitey. I was promised an additional transmiter for my inconvenience, when the alarm came back there was no extra transmiter. I could get no satisfaction from factory. I kept getting too many false alarms so finally disconected siren and use it strictly for remote door locks. My advice. DON'T BUY ANY BULLDOG PRODUCTS.

2.0 out of 5 stars Call Customer Support - BEFORE buying, March 5, 2001
By A Customer

If you are thinking of buying from this company I would suggest you first call their toll free support number 800-878-8007, leave a message and wait for a return call.

In the process of installing the alarm, I called their technical support group several times. Each time I reached a voice mail box asking for me to leave my name and number and they would call back. Most times this never happened and I had to call them back a second or third time.

I purchased this alarm just before Christmas. When I opened the package and tested each of the buttons on the remotes, I discovered one of the remotes had a bad button. After several phone calls to "customer service" I was told I would need to send the remote back to them. At my expense of course.

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value but Quality?, August 8, 2001

I recently purchased a 6002PRO ssystem to install in a friends car. I used to install car electronics professionally so installation was clear and easy. The instructions manual plus a wiring diagram from the Bulldog website was very helpful. The system worked fine for 1 day and then sounded off at 5:00am for no reason and on a long drive the system sounded while driving. After that the system would no longer work so I sent it back for repair by Bulldog and they do not pay for shipping to them.They give you another remote worth $20.00 for your trouble and time. So I wonder if the Quality is poor on their systems or am I just the lucky one person out of a thousand. I hope your luck is better than mine.

2.0 out of 5 stars Horrible tech support, July 12, 2005
This review is from: Bulldog Security 6002PRO ProSeries Security System (Electronics)
Before you buy a Bulldog product, try to contact their tech support line...or email tech support and wait for an answer. They do not return calls and do not answer email.

I installed the 6002 system and "radar" sensor in a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon soft top...wanted the radar sensor to protect the vehicle when the top is down. For good protection, you really need two of these sensors...one for the front seat area...and one for the rear area. The seats appear to totally block the sensor.

The system is installed...and most of the functions operate as described. But beware of numerous misprints in their literature. The polarity of one connection is a misprint...the radar adjusts opposite of the way it's indicated...and the current sensing is actually set to on when the manual states the factory setting is Off.

The starter immobilizer worked during installation...but does not work now. And the domelight supervision does not work. I've been waiting several days for return phone calls or an answer to my email. Their tech support is virtually non-existent.

I posted something ealier about installation of this product, and yes I agree that the remotes are [inexpensive]. And it is harder than the "easy install one connection alarm." (Novices don't bother.) But Get Real People! A keyless entry remote alarm for only.. What can you really expect? If you want a Professional system Shell out the ... (I think the Clifford on my ex-wife's car was that much, and this one works just as well.) Also people have also complained about the support? Here is my Experiance, about one two years ago ago my Siren started dying, (Lower volume) I called up (They Answered on second Ring) and they gave me an RMA (Return merchandise Authorization.) I forgot the address today, so I called them up. (They answered on the second ring again.) and thus I shipped them my bad siren. They sent me one back a new one pronto but Forgot they Free Remote for my Trouble, I sent them a letter with a copy of the statement of a free remote and they sent me one.

So far it's been working great and even my [inexpensive] remote still works (I have two spare and have only replaced the battery on the one.) So even if the remotes are cheapy they have been working so No complaints. (Again no Begineers install this Alarm I posted ealier about how to install it.)

The 6002PRO, as indicated, is for professional installers or anyone was has slightly better than average abilities. It would help if you have the car's wiring schematic but with perserverance it can be installed without one. I installed it in a Jeep Cherokee in less than 3 hours. The only complaint I have is that it didn't come with a relay for the dome light connection. I didn't need tech support so I can't comment on that.

This review is from: Bulldog Security 6002PRO ProSeries Security System (Electronics)
I Installed the 6002 Alarm and it worked for 3 months and then didnt work anymore. Sometimes it made the pre-alarm warning sounds at random.
I had ordered the upgraded version of this alarm and received the older version.
