The bulldog company will not return any emails or phone calls to help with install.

Installed on the QX4 first and it took both units to get one car to partially work because the first start module was bad.

OK - problem - the instructional DVD that comes with it is in French and I do not speak French.

I have used several Bulldog systems and have had good luck with them all.
Because they are sold in local stores, auto parts stores and Meijers, I have replaced remotes without shipping.
I have one like this now and am ordering another for my wife's new Lincoln.

The only problem I've had is on my car which I park all summer, the remote eventually drains the battery. Unpluging the connector from the unit solved that problem.

Uses AAA battery so replacement is easy and cheap.
Range is good and they offer wiring diagrams and manuals on the web.

[[ASIN:B0002Q7L90 Bulldog Deluxe 500 Two-Way Remote Starter with LCD Remote] JANUARY 2012 Installed this device on 1999 Ford Expedition. Did a bit of research before purchase and install and decided as it appeared to be a DIY supported product. Took approximately 9 hours, principally as a result of double checking and soldering all wire connections. No T-Cable available for this ford vehicle. Install went fairly smoothly. Install was completed and unit worked first time, although when u start unraveling all the wires u will definitely have reservations. Install manual was clear and was install bible. Came with a DVD which had poor quality. I did call tech support before install, to find out about any short-cuts or ideas for this model vehicle, They were available to answer the call promptly. Looking to install similar units in my other vehicles and will probably lean toward bulldog. Amazon base pricing is good, but then tax and shipping brings up slightly, however well below mfg list and/ or cost if installation outsourced. Would be great if there was a better way though to manage all the wires and maybe combine the module and bypass device. My guess is all mfg configure similarily. Would recommend this product to any hands on DIY who has patience for this type of stuff and likes working in tight places to include under a vehicles dash and adjacent firewalls. Good luck and Enjoy!

Update 09/2012: Since original installation 01/2012, which was nine 9 months ago, the door unlock portion of module not functioning properly. Was hard to get through to tech support and then customer service for RMA; but did receive an RMA-. Unit being returned for repair/replacement. who knows what they will do.

Pro:
Works as advertised. Have had no issues using all the features. Information provided on their web site is excellent.

Con:
1. Most of the output channels are rated to sink 200mA only, so needed to add relays. Higher current output channel would make installation easier.
2. Some of the wires are a bit short.
3. Temperature feedback feature is nice, but would like the ability to locate the temperature sensor away from the RES module.
4. For multiple button operations, such as starting, need to push the button slowly.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the system. Much cheaper than premium brand system, and works equally well.

>>>Long term report<<<
After 9 months of use, I'm adding the following reports and downgrading to 3/5 stars.
A. The FOB is brittle, and chips easily. The battery lid falls off now, and needs to be taped shut.
B. The FOB is overly sensitive to ESD (static electricity). If you place the FOB in your jacket pocket, it will randomly reset.
C. The RES will shutdown and restart the engine randomly. This seems to happen more during the summer.

The first deluxe 500 I had failed after 4 years in my Honda Civic so I replaced it with this 500b. The locks were only two wires so that part was easy. As for the rest of it you obviously need to be technically inclined and good at probing and splicing into existing wiring. I've had great results with all my Bulldog products. The main reasons I use this starter:

- Two way communication so you know when it recieves a signal
- Ability to install in a Manual Transmission vehicle.
- Range is longer than other bulldog starters
- AAA battery in remote is easy to replace.
- Price is right.

I bought this and installed it on a 2008 Honda Accord. I bought the PKH34 bypass from XpressKit made specifically for Honda and Acura ( Go to Xpresskit.com and find the one for your car then look for it on amazon they are pretty cheap). The bypass that comes with this unit requires you to give up a key which I did not want to sacrifice. I knew I was going to need a bypass so I did a search on Amazon and almost bought the DBALL bypass which would have required a special tool to flash. GO TO THE XPRESSKIT.COM WEBSITE AND FIND THE BYPASS MADE FOR YOUR CAR THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE FLASHING. You don't need to give up any keys and it was very easy to program (really easy, you just make the proper wiring and plug it in).

You might also want to check the Bulldog website and look at the wiring for your car to see if you need any additional relays that bulldog sells. I needed one for the parking lights and I just decided not to connect those wires because my daytime lights come on anyway when the car starts. I also only use the remote start I did not bother with the power doors and trunk since my key and factory transmitter are one piece so I'm carrying around both transmitters. The install is a couple of days old and I have yet to test the range (anywhere in my house so far works).

There are lots of programming options which can improve your experience. The default time the starter cranks was not enough to start the car so I had to read the instructions on how to make it a little longer then it worked like a charm. By default you need to press the *STAR* button twice to start the car which was driving me crazy because it wouldn't always take. I programmed it to just require one press and It's now much easier to start. Oh yeah and where is my installation kit and test light?
