Book Description

May 14, 2010
No writer is more extreme, perverted, or gross than Edward Lee. His world is one of psychopathic redneck rapists, sex addicted demons, and semen stealing aliens. Brace yourself, the king of splatterspunk is guaranteed to shock, offend, and make you laugh until you vomit. Bullet Through Your Face collects three novellas demonstrating Lee's mind-blasting talent. Ever Nat - One man is forced to endure an unimaginable torment just to stay alive, one night at a time. The Salt-Diviner - A touching story of one couple and the quadriplegic, homeless fortune teller locked in their basement. The Refrigerator Full of Sperm - Why are all the men of Luntville falling into comas with their pants down and dicks up?

More About the Author

Edward Lee is an American novelist specializing in the field of horror, and has authored 40 books, more than half of which have been published by mass-market New York paperback companies such as Leisure/Dorchester, Berkley, and Zebra/Kensington. He is a Bram Stoker award nominee for his story "Mr. Torso," and his short stories have appeared in over a dozen mass-market anthologies, including THE BEST AMERICAN MYSTERY STORIES OF 2000, Pocket's HOT BLOOD series, and the award-wining 999. Several of his novels have sold translation rights to Germany, Greece, and Romania. He also publishes quite actively in the small-press/limited-edition hardcover market; many of his books in this category have become collector's items. While a number of Lee's projects have been optioned for film, only one has been made, HEADER, which was released on DVD to mixed reviews in June, 2009, by Synapse Films.

Lee is particularly known for over-the-top occult concepts and an accelerated treatment of erotic and/or morbid sexual imagery and visceral violence. He was born on May 25, 1957 in Washington, D.C., and grew up in Bowie, Maryland. In the late-70s he served in the U.S. Army's 1st Armored Division, in Erlangen, West Germany, then, for a short time, was a municipal police officer in Cottage City, Maryland. Lee also attended the University of Maryland as an English major but quit in his last semester to pursue his dream of being a horror novelist. For over 15 years, he worked as the night manager for a security company in Annapolis, Maryland, while writing in his spare time. In 1997, however, he became a full-time writer, first spending several years in Seattle and then moving to St. Pete Beach, Florida, where he currently resides.

Of note, the author cites as his strongest influence horror legend H. P. Lovecraft; in 2007, Lee embarked on what he calls his "Lovecraft kick" and wrote a spate of novels and novellas which tribute Lovecraft and his famous Cthulhu Mythos. Among these projects are THE INNSWICH HORROR, "Trolley No. 1852," HAUNTER OF THE THRESHOLD, GOING MONSTERING, "Pages Torn From A Travel Journal," and "You Are My Everything." Lee promises more Lovecraftian work on the horizon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST OWN HORROR COLLECTION!!!!, May 30, 2010
This review is from: Bullet Through Your Face (Paperback)
Finally, after what seems like aeons, someone(Deadite Press) has released some of Ed Lee's rather obscure and somewhat hard to find(unless you've got a fat wallet) stories in paperback form. Two wonderful collections of Lee grossness and nastiness as only he can write'em. The one I'm reviewing is Bullet Through Your Face(the other is Brain Cheese Buffet... available here on amazon for an incredibly low price), which is a novella collection, the other being a short story collection. I'll focus strictly on Bullet Through Your Face for this review.

If you've never read any of Ed's wide range of novella's, then you are in for a helluva treat. In BTYF you get 3 novellas, Ever Nat, The Salt Diviner, and The Refrigerator Full Of Sperm. Each one of them will probably gross you out and if you're like me(warped and perverted sense of humor) you'll be splitting a side from laughter. I think Ever Nat and Refrigerator Full Of Sperm are two of Ed's best novellas, though that could easily be debated since their are quite a few that are awesome.

Ever Nat was originally published(only) in a 70 page limited edition chapbook and has been known to fetch fairly high prices($70) on ebay. Up until I reread this in this collection, it had been a few years since I'd given it a read. It still has the same impact! You're probably thinking what in the world does Ever Nat mean? Think really redneck terminology wise and you're on the right track. If you're easily offended by penises the size of summer squash and someone getting reamed with said member you may want to steer clear. As I mentioned earlier, I a bit warped and find this story hilarious!

The Refrigerator Full Of Sperm was originally published(if I remember correctly) in a collection written by Lee and John Pelan titled Splatterspunk: The Micah Hays Stories. It's been a long time since I read that collection, but I remember it being an absolutely hilarious collection(and pricey and hard to find). Think aliens, sperm, a police deputy with a huge member, rednecks, more aliens, more sperm, sex, violence, more sperm, redneck speak, and you've got a side splitting combo that will make you gag and laugh at the same time. Love this story!

The cover artwork is absolutely amazing and very fitting for this collection. You'll feel like you took a bullet through the face after reading these 3 novellas. If you're into redneck psycho rapists, aliens, huge members, sperm, butt raping, redneck terminology, gore, violence, blood, guts and every other vile thing you can think of you'll want to get this NOW! If you're not grossed out by these stories there is something seriously wrong with you. Now that I think about I wonder if there's something wrong with Lee for thinking up this kind of stuff. Oh who cares, I still love him for it!

I really hope we'll see more collections of this sort from Lee in the future. I would love to see The Case Of The Police Officer's ****ring and The Piano Player Who Had No Fingers reprinted in a collection. Next up for me to read is Lee's other recently released collection, Brain Cheese Buffet. Buy Bullet Through Your Face and you'll be gagging and laughing at the same time. That's a good thing!

The first story is good. The second story is great. The third story will make you throw up all over the pages... in a good way.

You think they couldn't make a story from this book into a movie because of the gore... hell they couldn't make some of this into movie because of the dialog alone. If I went on Howard Stern and started saying some of the stuff the good PFC Hays (he is one of the good guys mind you) says in the first few pages they would throw me out of the studio for being gross.

That's how gross this is!

I'll never think of vaginal polyps the same way again...

5.0 out of 5 stars Rednecks, Salt, and Sperm, March 16, 2011

This review is from: Bullet Through Your Face (Paperback)
To paraphrase George Clooney during a press conference about Princess Diana's death, "Leisure Horror is dead, and who do we blame for it?" Well folks let me tell ya, they did it to themselves. They had some shady business practices and soon authors weren't getting paid and they were getting frustrated. Enter a small press outfit in Oregon.

Yes folks for those of us who prefer physical books to Kindles Deadite Press an imprint of Bizarro publisher, the aptly named, Eraserhead press to pick up the remains of Leisure's self destruction and make as Charlie Sheen would say "Tin cans into piles of gold." Bullet Through Your Face and its companion collection Brain Cheese Buffet were Deadite's coming out party of books and come out they did.

Right of the bat this book goes full throttle into the sick stuff, Ever Nat and its description of dirty, horny rednecks will make you sick. The Salt Diviner, will cleanse your pallet but only for a short while because the twist is a knockout. Refrigerator Full Of Sperm and its deliriously perverse character Micha Hays and his deviant sexual exploits and an even crazier narrator(In one part of the story he stops and goes on a rant about Bill Clinton) will lead you straight to the nearest waste can and heave yourself silly. These three novellas are as nasty as they get folks and for those of us who like their horror with a vomit bag and a side of humor will love this. All others steer clear this isn't Stephen King, it's Good Ole Ed Lee and he doesn't play nice.

Deadite has gone on to publish more books(Clickers 1&2, Urban Gothic, Population Zero to name a few) and folks let me tell ya you won't find a more eager to please horror publisher than this. These guys go all the way to please us true horror fans and you wont be able to punt anything down. They are as this book suggests like a "Bullet Through Your Face"
