Burn The City is an interesting game with distinct similarities to Angry Birds but isn't a 'clone' either. Unlike Angry Birds, There's no story here and no motivation to destroy the cities. And instead of launching birds with different capabilities, you are launching fireballs and occasionally super fireballs at various targets such as buildings, cranes, TNT, nuclear power plants, and so forth. There's also a "battle" section that has you launching fireballs at moving targets. Interestingly, there doesn't seem to be a limit on the number of fireballs you can launch; the only thing is that you have to wait a very short delay to launch the next one.

There are slight tutorials, but that's it as far as instruction goes. There are options here, to turn off elements such as the sounds and music, and even a speed setting with 1x, 1.5x, and 2x. The music gets slightly annoying after a while, but its not bad.

You earn "Burn Bucks" (without much explanation on how) to spend on buying other monsters, including a somewhat cute girl monster. I know the Burn Bucks have something to do with the medals, but it isn't terribly clear how you earn medals, either, except it has something to do with the odd scoring, which isn't explained in the least bit. :c/

I got through several levels of the first world, so I am unable to report whether the music or sounds change with the different worlds. Unfortunately, I did get bored after a while, so unlike Angry Birds this isn't something to sit down and play for hours on end.

PROS:
+ Fun with cheap thrills
+ Okay graphics
+ 100 Levels spanning 3 worlds
+ 4 "Battle" games (think Missile Command)
+ Speed settings.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good catapult game May 10, 2013
Verified Purchase
In this level based game, you are Godzilla and bound to destroy a city.
To do that, you aim and drag to shoot buildings but NOT as in angry birds which has a backwards slingshot movement.
Instead, drag forward at an angle to determine your trajectory (the path of your missile), then release to fire.
You have to burn all buildings to the ground.
It is sometimes possible to topple over one building which then destroys the next one, too.
What I do miss are some instructions and background - once you finish a level, you will be told about fire and collateral damage etc, but have to figure it out for yourself, even though it's not hard:
- fire damage: direct hit
- collateral damage: damage caused by falling buildings to other buildings
- explosive damage: damage to structures when TNT explodes on impact
It gets a bit more versatile as you progress, you will have reflecting walls, trampolins and wrecking balls for example.

Unfortunately, it's hard to earn enough virtual money to upgrade your monster (though it's probably cosmetic) - it seems to take forever.
Not a bad game, but I wish for better instructions and a background story.

A tip for Kindle users:
The Kindle back button obscures the level forward button.
Touch to the left of it, then drag to the right until the next locked level set appears, then press level left once.

3.0 out of 5 stars fun to play, tedious interface May 10, 2013
Verified Purchase
I'm really enjoying this "crush the castle"-esque game. Flames from dinosaurs destroy the town with some power-ups and interesting interactive objects.
My two star removal comes from the poor user interface. Almost every level requires you to be zoomed out all the way, but the game automatically zooms in when you start or restart the level. There are also mandatory power-ups every few levels which are also removed at restart and placed in the level so you have to tap them to acquire/re-aquire them.
Great visuals and quick load times pulled me in. User interface killed it for me after fifteen levels. Thanks for the FAOTD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Target practice with ballistic fireballs May 10, 2013
Verified Purchase
The graphics in this game are eye-catching and the ballistics fun to experiment with, but after a while the game just became target practice.

As the player you control a plump, green Godzilla like monster that spits out fireball projectiles. Using your finger to swipe, you change the arc and flight path of the projectiles so they land on buildings, nuclear reactors, and other such targets. The level is complete when all the targets are destroyed.

The game was fun for a while, but after a few levels it just became repetitive. The layout of the buildings change, but the ballistics stay the same. The game has no sense of urgency, Godzilla just sits there lobbing bomb after bomb at the defensless buildings. The game needs some kind of counter attack from the cities to add some excitement to the play.

So a good game, but needs more action to make it great.

Starts off simple and has good OPTIONS like Sound, Speed and Timer settings. It's a very Enjoyable game with all kinds of interesting and Fun features that get much better after the first dozen levels. You start off with Straight forward shooting of Fireballs and then get to significantly change the strategy; You can Bounce shots off rubber walls and plattsforms, hit TNT containers for mass destruction, shoot down Planes over the target area and drop boulders on targets by shooting the chains that support them. There are also acquired POWER-UPS that you can use for better results. You get UNLIMITED Fireballs.

DRAWBACKS: The Target Sight is not as accurate as you would like so you have to adjust your shots. However, Aiming is OK and it really is not a huge problem that you can't adapt to.
No written Instructions but Picture Hints do help you figure things out well enough.
Burning is slow so you have to wait for all burning items to disappear before you can get past them for more shots at other targets. Requires complete destruction to complete levels.

OVERALL: Nicelly designed with Good Controls, Great Options, Nice Music/Sound effects and Smooth, Fluid Physics that are Realistic and Fun. Not like Angry Birds but a Good Alternative with it's own Addictive Fun style. You can also Replay levels for higher scores. Very Engaging and Satisfying Fun. Glad I did not pass it up due to it's simplistic appearance. It's a KEEPER.
