The last and my favorite Partridge release,

Thank God!! Finally on cd!! I grew up with the Partridge Family music. I was a young teen throughout their run and I loved the music. Must admit I always loved the music more thasn the show itself. All the other Partridge Family albums have been on cd remastered many times but never BULLETIN BOARD and it is my favorite. It's funny that this album was put together so quickly and at the last minute when released for all the tracks are very strong. It came in the shows 4th season - David Cassidy said he would not return for another and Shirley Jones is not a part of these Partridge tracks.
It is said David Cassidy was never thrilled with the Partridge Family songs. The first two albums were quality pop but they did loose quality a little bit after that (though fans like me still loved them.) David Cassidy always wanted a more mature sound and he got it here. This set has high quality pop with more of a rock and r@b influence. David takes these songs seriously and his vocals are great. The set opens real strong with MONEY MONEY and ROLLER COASTER. Amazing tracks and either one would have made a great single. Instead they released LOOKIN FOR A GOOD TIME which is an awesome song but so different from the Partridge norm it had no chance as a single. But the song itself is a great r@b track. They also remake the classic OH NO. NOT MY BABY. I don't think there is a miss here and all the tracks are very strong. WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE, HOW LONG IS TOO LONG and I'LL NEVER GET OVER YOU are all standouts. Also, my all time favorite Partrisdge Family song is here. I HEARD YOU SINGING YOUR SONG is pure magic, pure bubble gum and pure feel good. Excellent melody and backup vocals used for excellent harmonization. On the other tracks David Cassidy stands front and center more than on earlier releases. I truly believe that had this album been marketed better the new mature sound would have allowed more albums to be released whether the show was on or not. They just shouild have chosen a better single. I can't recommend this cd enough. The songs are timeless, not at all dated and remasterd for excellent sound quality. Don't let your Partridge Falmily collection be incomplete and you will be thrilled with this cd. MONEY MONEY, ROLLER COASTER and I HEARD YOU SINGING YOUR SONG are worth the purchase in themselveses. Highly recommended.

Any diehard Partridge fan has been waiting for this CD for nearly 30 years! A terrific final album with lots of sizzle, this recording is a welcome pop breeze. One of my personal all-time favorite PF songs is on this CD - I Heard You Singing Your Song - it has never left my head after hearing it on vinyl. It's a treat here, along with sweet but square Shirley Jones songs, and the rest of the terrific album tunes. Glad this finally sees the light of day! Bravo.

This is arguably the best effort of the Partridge Family. Fun and fantastic with songs atypical of their earlier more choiresque fare. Most of the songs here were used in later years of the show, and would be familiar to those who cherish the program. It's a tragedy that this has gone on for so long without a CD issue. IT'S FINALLY OUT!!This music is just as crisp and bright as it was when recorded. And the stellar cast of musicians including Cassidy and Jones at the vocals proves this is timeless, priceless music. Excellence in the Pop form!
This completes the original run of vinyl for the 10 recorded albums (two were greatest hits packages). Now if we could only get the unreleased material. Email Collector's Choice and tell them how much you want this stuff! If you have enjoyed any of these recordings from their 1st called "Album" all the way to this one, you will SO enjoy the unreleased songs. Email Cassidy too about your disappointment in his reluctance to help these superior recordings see the light of day. Generation after generation is losing out on not hearing beautifully orchestrated quality pop songs that inspire joy and hope.

This has been my most favorite Partridge Family LP next to their debut "ALBUM". It took a new and departed musical direction under the guidance of Wes Farrell.I can't understand how and why not a single from this LP ever cracked the TOP 40. "Rollercoaster","Looking For A Good Time",and a few others would have made great hits. Now if someone at ARISTA would wake up and release this long awaited LP on to cd,it would complete any Partridge Family fan's collection.

If Arista is reading, please release this final album by the Partridge Family on CD. The fans will buy it up and we will all have our collections complete. My favorite song is "I'll Never Get Over You" by Tony Romeo, as well as "I Heard You Singing Your Song". The harmonies are great on this selection. Until it is released I'll continue to listen to my vinyl copy and copy I transferred to CD.

1. Money Money (Farrell-Janssen-Hart)
2. Roller Coaster (James) 3. Lookin' For A Good Time (Farrell-Janssen-Hart) 4. Oh, No, Not My Baby (Goffin-King) 5. I Wouldn't Put Nothin' Over On You (Farrell-Janssen-Hart) 6. Where Do We Go From Here (James) 7. How Long Is Too Long (Bahler-Asher) 8. I'll Never Get Over You (Romeo) 9. Alone Too Long (James-Weil) 10. I Heard You Singing Your Song (Mann) 11. That's The Way It Is With You (Schoch) Terrific final bow from The Partridge Family, with the spiky "Money Money" leading the record off in high style (featured in a last-season episode wherein a disgruntled Laurie labeled this tune "a typical Keith Partridge lyric!"). The brash, catchy "Lookin' For a Good Time" turned out to be the last single released from the group, and both the song and the album stiffed (cynical America had tired of the TV show, but the music is still viable). If anything negative can be said, it's that the songs are all curiously short (most are three minutes in length or just under, with the exception of "How Long Is Too Long" which clocks in at 3:41). The production isn't edgy, and the selections are ballad-heavy, yet it shows that David Cassidy was still as viable a pop-star as ever, and he effortlessly croons his way through the "I Am a Clown" sound-alike "Alone Too Long", gets down on the funky "Roller Coaster", and takes "How Long Is Too Long" to great heights (this would've made the perfect sunny-'70's AM radio single). The best songs here, "I'll Never Get Over You" and "That's The Way It Is With You", are sentimental without being sappy, locking right into those Tiger Beat feelings we all had at one time. Shamefully, the album is not available on CD (and is scarce and expensive on vinyl), but fans could do no worse than to pick this one up if they can. Far more streamlined and cohesive as an album per se than "Notebook" or "Crossword Puzzle", it showcases a singer still at the top of his game.

Finally On CD!,
This review is from: Bulletin Board (Audio CD)
It's been a long, long wait for this album to be released on CD. Was it worth the wait? In a word...YES! If for no other reason than to complete the Partridge Family catalog on CD. So, at long last the final Partridge platter is on CD.
The packaging faithfully recreates the original album to perfection. Albeit just smaller. Lisa Sutton continues her great liner notes that began with the first Partridge CD reissue. She has now compiled notes for all of the albums except the Christmas album. For those unfamiliar with this release, here's a bit of background. By the time Crossword Puzzle and Bulletin Board were released, the Partridge Family TV show was entering its twilight. Season three consisted of new songs from Crossword Puzzle, Notebook and a few left over tracks from Shopping Bag. As the show entered its fourth and final season, things were looking a bit shakey on the Partridge front. The show was moved from its comfortable Friday night time slot to a Saturday time slot. Ricky Segall was brought in so the show could continue to appeal to the preteen set. A move that many have marked as the moment the show 'jumped the shark.' David Cassidy had made it known that he would be leaving the show by mid season (but he stayed until the end of the season). He had gotten tired of the squeeky clean image of Keith Partridge and his well known disdain for the songs he was forced to record for the show. However, Cassidy took a much more active role in the music side and the songs on the final Partridge album reflect this. The songs are a bit more adult. Bulletin Board was released a few weeks prior to the start of the fourth season and several of the songs were featured in several episodes of the show's fourth season. Sales of Bulletin Board were well below expectations. A trend that had begun with the previous releases, Crossword Puzzle and Notebook. The downward trend may be attributed to the lack of Cassidy's face being dispalyed prominatly on both Notebook and Crossword Puzzle. Bulletin Board continued the trend and sales for the album quickly sank like a stone. Which is sad because I find most of the songs on Bulletin Board to be some of the best (and most fun) songs in the entire Partridge Family catalog. The first three tracks (Money Money, Roller Coaster, Lookin' For A Good Time) start the album off with a bang. In fact, Lookin' For A Good Time was released as the one and only single from the album. True it went nowhere, but it's a fun, fast and furious song. David Cassidy's vocals on this album are some of the best he ever recored at the time. In spite of the fact that he didn't particulary like any of the Partridge Family songs at the time, he was professional enough to give each and every song his all. It's what made David Cassidy the #1 teen idol of the 70's. If not of all time. I think my favorite track on the album is I Wouldn't Put Nothin' Over On You. It another really bouncy fun song that I could listen to a hundred times. In fact I'd go so far as to say that musically, Bulletin Board is the best Partridge Family album of them all. The two bonus tracks from Shirley Jones are nice enough songs. And it is nice to have Ain't Love Easy (from a season 3 episode), but I felt they were out of place on the album. All in all, the final Partridge Family album delivers some really fun and at times, some of the best music the series had to offer. I'm so glad that David Cassidy has finally made his peace with his Partridge past. His influence on Bulletin Board's musical direction is very clear and it helps to propel what could have been just a mediocre album to a great album. Again, even though that this is, sadly, the last album by the Partridges, in my opinion they went out on a high note. I'm so glad that this has finally been released on CD. My Partridge CD collection (just like my vinyl collection) is now complete. Now if only we could get someone to release all of the songs that were in the show but never released on vinyl to compile a CD of those songs, then the Partridge Family catalog would trully be complete.

A message to the copyright owner(s). PLEASE release the 25 other PF songs that never made it on an album! Please, please, please!
I got happy.. to get this, the last of The Partridge Family albums. The sound restoration is the Very best of all their albums... so for now this is an absolute must for any fan. I really wish the previous restorations had produced this level of sound quality; but maybe that has more to do with how good recording technology was with the previous albums(?). Like "Album" there seems to be a lack of continuity between these songs. But that said, there are enough Partridge-esk songs I adore on this release, "I'll Never Get Over You", "I Wouldn't Put Nothin Over On You", & "I Heard You Singing Your Song"... as well as a few other truly great efforts that experimented with derivative yet contemporary (for the mid 70s) sounds like "Where Do We Go From Here" & "Thats The Way It Is With You". If you love the music of The Partridge Family, then buy this without hesitation. I only wish I could personally thank Wes Farrel and Tony Romeo.. rest in peace guys. |
