5.0 out of 5 stars Late to the charts, but worth the wait
I tend to not write song reviews, but I feel the need to balance out the other review. Bulletproof is one of the best radio songs in a while. To compare Elly Jackson to Justin Bieber is one of the nuttier things I've seen in a review, and I encourage anyone out there to give the sample a listen. They simply have very few similarities.

Anyway, Bulletproof is...

3.0 out of 5 stars Uses inferior-quality CBR encoding
My rating isn't about the song itself, because I assume you know whether you like the song before you make your purchase. My rating is based on the MP3 file you actually get from Amazon.com.

Most Amazon.com MP3s are encoded using the superior-quality variable bitrate (VBR) encoding, targeted at an average of 256 kbps. Unfortunately, this song is encoded with...

Anyway, Bulletproof is one of the catchiest songs to hit radio in the past half-year or so, and I think it can be appreciated in that the material and the sound is very different than your typical pop hits: strength-filled lyrics with an electropop back beat. It's biting, solid, and a great dance song. La Roux took Europe by storm in 2009, and its hard to tell if they will do the same in the U.S., but Bulletproof is a great start. Certainly, the quality outstrips most pop music on the radio today and the critical reaction to the song helps on that side. I'd say it's worth the buck to add to your collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Uses inferior-quality CBR encoding, July 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bulletproof (MP3 Download)
My rating isn't about the song itself, because I assume you know whether you like the song before you make your purchase. My rating is based on the MP3 file you actually get from Amazon.com.

Most Amazon.com MP3s are encoded using the superior-quality variable bitrate (VBR) encoding, targeted at an average of 256 kbps. Unfortunately, this song is encoded with the inferior-quality constant bitrate (CBR) encoding. It is very disappointing to see that Amazon.com is still occasionally using constant bitrate encoding.

Also, as another reviewer pointed out, the MP3 file is LOUD, with lots of clipping (bad!). According to MP3Gain, the volume level is 100.3 dB. This means that the AVERAGE volume of the song is 100.3% of what the theoretical MAXIMUM is supposed to be. Most modern pop songs have an average volume level in the high 90s, while older songs are often in the lower 90s. If you download MP3Gain from SourceForge, you can adjust the volume level.

I did not like the title of the song, but after listening to it, I was surprised. This is a very good tune!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bulletproof Ballad, August 22, 2010

"Bulletproof" is an electrifying ballad by the electrifying UK duo La Roux. It's a no holds barred, kicky anthem. You want to sing along with it. It's about leaving an abusive relationship, and no longer taking any garbage. It's a riot grrrl song. "Bulletproof" is a confidence-boosting song!

This mp3 version will blow your eardrums. It could be all versions are messed up. When this song comes up on my ipod it literally hurts my ears. I need to turn down volume. I believe the gain on this is wrong. You might want to try a software to normalize it like [...]. Otherwise it is a good song for working out!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Bulletproof, April 22, 2010
This review is from: Bulletproof (MP3 Download)
Honestly, there just aren't many good songs out there on radio so far this year, Unfortunately, there are songs that just aren't very strong. That comes through with newcomer La Roux and their techno song Bulletproof. The song honestly wasn't a very strong song at all. It felt not to be very weak, it was a mixture of the voice of Justin Bieber meets the intimacy of Erasure. I really was honestly very dissapointed with the song. It actually was not one of the best songs I've heard recently on radio. Hopefully, the next time I hear a techno-styled song, I can hear something a bit more authentic that is better than being bulletproof.
