John Fulton was the first American (USA) to become a matador. His book gives a good insight about bullfighting. There are many pictures to help one understand the fight itself. There is some history and also a list of Spanish bullfighting terms.

Written by a man who actually performed as a matador in Mexico and Spain, this book goes beyond the mere descriptions of the corrida found in other bullfight books, with insights on torero techniques and the difficulties faced in Spain by a non-Spanish matador. It was especially interesting for me because John Fulton's career as an American bullfighter in Spain was well described in Bruce Schoenfeld's "The Last Serious Thing," a book about a season of bullfighting in Seville which I have read and reread many times.

The late Matador and artist, John Fulton, illustrated this work with drawings and photographs, and all these years after publication it remains by far the very best primer on the subject in existence in the English language, for Fulton wrote as well as he painted and fought bulls in Spain and Mexico over a career that spanned over forty years.
