Political Propaganda
This book was released shortly before the 2004 elections. The book was intended as campaign propaganda intended to influence voters to vote for George W. Bush rather than John Kerry. I don't object to political propaganda. It's part of the process. But this book is ridiculous with its praise of George W. Bush. The author makes him out to be some sort of economic guru/deity. I agree with supply-side economics. It's hard to argue against efficient government, lower tax rates, simple tax code, savings and investment and low trade barriers. But what irks me is when proponents twist facts, omit pertinent data and outright lie. There are plenty of economic hacks that do this: Kudlow, Jerry Bowyer, Cavuto... These people have no degree in economics and are just pop-talking heads, a cheering section for the Republican Party. Stephen Moore is actually educated in the field, and, therefore, I hold him in the utmost contempt for this dishonest book. One of the most offensive lies is on page 55 where the author claims that Kennedy's tax cuts triggered the economic boom of the 1960s. The economy had been booming for years before the Kennedy tax cuts. One could argue that the Kennedy tax cuts caused an already booming economy to grow even faster, but to say that they "triggered" the boom of the 1960s is either ignorant or dishonest. Stephen Moore isn't ignorant. But it's not all total drivel. In the books introduction the author prescribes several practical policies that would promote economic growth and wealth for the nation. And it actually includes reducing spending (which at the time was a rare proposal among supply-side hacks). Also included are private investment accounts for Social Security, expansion of IRAs, health savings accounts and lower trade barriers. Most self-described supply-siders know one thing and one thing only: tax cuts. Here, Moore deserves credit for not being so shallow and actually prescribing a set of practical policies. In the end, this book is Stephen Moore's announcement to the world that he is a partisan hack.

Why does Stephen Moore still Pontificate on NPR in 2009 ?,
This review is from: Bullish on Bush: How George Bush's Owenership Society Will Make America Stronger (Paperback)
The book is pure fantasy and partisan propaganda. Stephen Moore is on Diane Rehm today, June 17 2009, telling listeners how global warming is a bunch of baloney. If the guy, who claims to be an economist, was so 'bullish on Bush' in 2004, and was so wrong on the consequences of Bush policies, why is he put on the airwaves to blow hot air on climate change? These Republican supporters go from causing one train wreck to creating another.

70 Year Conservative Fight,
By
This review is from: Bullish on Bush: How George Bush's Owenership Society Will Make America Stronger (Paperback)
The 70 year old conservative ideological fight against the Social Security Act is now incorporating the usual metaphors we've come to expect from this Administration: "train wreck," "bankruptcy," "cancer," etc. As long ago as the late 30's, conservatives claimed it would bankrupt the nation. Then it was Barry Goldwater's turn in the 60's, then Reagan's in the 80's. All took their shot at it, but none have come as close to transforming this great program than Bush. All someone needs to do to determine the validity of Bush's claims is to carefully read the 225-page annual report of the Social Security trustees to see that the system is probably in need of a small adjustment (such as those Congress has approved in the past) but the system IS SOLVENT AS IT IS!
This book is merely the P.R. hatchet-job by an Administration hack.

Overrated bore of a book,

This review is from: Bullish on Bush: How George Bush's Owenership Society Will Make America Stronger (Paperback)
I bought this book having enjoyed Moore on TV many times. However, Moore should stick to TV as this rambling, one-sided, economics disaster-of-a-book put me to sleep on three different occasions. The foreword by Larry Kudlow (who I'm not impressed with on TV) definitely got things off on the wrong foot as Moore ran with this book the rest of the way. Too bad he was running into the wrong end zone. Very disappointing, considering how short the book was. Too much GOP cheerleading, too little objective analysis.

The Road to Bad Economics Ideas,
By
This review is from: Bullish on Bush: How George Bush's Owenership Society Will Make America Stronger (Paperback)
Sad, very sad. Despite the facts on the failures of the Bush administration, Moore is still lost in the wilderness. The WSJ needs some new faces as well as some people with new ideas if we are going to work our way out of this mess, only some of which can be blamed on Bush. The rest of blame goes to people like Moore that have helped to produce this free market financial disaster.

Great Book and Right on the Money,
This review is from: Bullish on Bush: How George Bush's Owenership Society Will Make America Stronger (Paperback)
This is book with a message that needs far more attention. President Bush has almost single handedly rescued our economy from the aftershocks of the 9-11 terrorist attack, the Clinton recession, and the Clinton corporate frauds, and yet he receives far too little credit for that.
In this book Moore lays out the case beautifully, and reminds us how much value the Bush economic policies have been to this country and to the world. Bush's tax cuts and pro-market, pro-business policies have yielded tremendous fruit. Bravo to Moore for bringing attention to this. |
