I bought this book in the hope that it would give me some insight in to the characteristics and personality of a bullmastiff. This book is good if you re wishing to breed your pet, but not very helpful for general owner information ie personality of your bed, training methods etc.

Sound advice... March 26, 2000
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Firstly, I'm not related in any way although I have the same surname. Secondly, I have met the author on two seperatet occassions for a couple of hours and did acquire a puppy from him. So it could be said I'm biased but on the other hand I have a brief insight as to where he's coming from. Well, now to the book. It covers all aspects of ownership that one would need to know - from general ownership to preparing to enter shows. Aswell as the history of the breed and possible origins. The book is written in a way that explains 'why things are' and not just that 'they are', especially in regard to how your dog is built. I have read other Bully books and found they don't all cover those essentially daily ownership issues. This would be a must have on your bookshelf to anyone that is really serious about owning this type of dog. After reading it you'll probably find it'll turn into a starting reference for many enquires you may have. In summary: Readable, sound, practicle and written by someone whose dedicated decades to the breed. Buy it!

LIMITED UTILITY January 3, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I COME @ THIS BOOK AS A DOG LOVER & OWNER OF SEVERAL GIANT BREEDS OVER 40-SOME YEARS (IRISH WOLFHOUNDS ,& CURRENTLY A KANGAL DOG & A BOERBOEL--ALSO MANY BOUVIERS & A GERMAN SHEPHERD).
I WAS DISAPPOINTED IN THIS RATHER OLD FASHIONED BREED GUIDE ,LIKELY WRITTEN BY FOLKS WHO KNOW & CARE DEEPLY RE THE EXAUSTIVELY DETAILED LISTING OF SHOW / CHAMPION BULLMASTIFFS & THEIR LINEAGE / BREEDING PROGRAMS IN EVERY IMAGINABLE COUNTRY IN THE WORLD.
IT DIDN'T MEET MY NEEDS CZ THERE'S VERY ! LITTLE INFO USEFUL TO SOMEONE NOT DEEPLY INTERESTED IN THIS HISTORICAL MATERIAL . I WAS LOOKING FOR MORE EXTENSIVE BREED-SPECIFIC INFO ON THE B'S PERSONALITY , CHARACTER , INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT PARTICULAR PLEASURES & CHALLENGES OF (& HOW ) PROPERLY RAISING THIS BREED IS ACTUALLY DIFFERENT THAN RAISING OTHER LARGE DOGS OR MASTIFF-TYPES. DR BOB
